Customize Your Login and Lock Screens With Lion

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 03:00 PM

http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/28/logi...ly+(OS+X+Daily)

"Mac OS X Lion brings a nice new feature to login and lock screens that allow you to display a message underneath the login panel. This is visible to everyone and it makes for a great place to put either a generic personalization or better yet, a lost & found message."

Pretty simple to set up if you have the "Require Password" feature turned on. All you have to do is go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General Tab then click on the lock icon in the lower left of the window. Once you enter the admin password click on the "Show Message When Screen is Locked" button and type your login and message in the box. The click the lock icon to save your changes. Pretty simple. If you want the free Fliqlo background, that acts as a clock, just head here.

Can't Use Two Finger Click on Your Macbook Pro? Try This...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 02:00 AM

"In the release version of Mac OS X 10.7, there is a bug that prevents secondary click working with two-finger click on the Macbook Pro 4.1."

According to the instructions, the only way to fix this is to go into terminal mode. In Terminal run the following:

defaults -currentHost write -g

com.apple.trackpad.enableSecondaryClick -bool YES

Of course, with anything in Terminal, be very careful.

OS X 10.7 Lion to be Released Through Mac App Store?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...re_sources.html

"With the release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion this summer, Apple will make the switch to a new kind of digital distribution for its operating system upgrades by releasing the software first through its new Mac App Store, AppleInsider has learned."

Not really surprising if this comes to pass, and it sure will make it convenient for those of us with the MacBook Airs. And this seems to go along with what appears to be a move towards removing the need for physical media such as DVDs. Even if this were put on a thumb drive it would be better than having it on DVD in my opinion. And this goes along with Apple making the app store a big part of OS X Lion and the removal of boxed software from the retail stores. I think this does put those who depend on physical media ie those with slower Internet speeds at a disadvantage, or at least it makes it more inconvenient for them, but I'm all for less clutter and going the way of the cloud. What are your thoughts about this move, good? Bad?
