Easy to Make iPhone Tripod Mount

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 01:00 PM

May make one of these. Combined with one of my Gorillapods, it would be cool for filming interviews...

Stainless Steel Prototyping Stencil

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Talk" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.designcommission.com/sho...ne-stencil-kit/

"Quickly sketch out iPhone UI prototypes. Brainstorm your application ideas using our precision cut stainless steel stencil and mechanical pencil."

If you do any kind of development, you know the importance of prototyping. This should make that job a lot easier and it's stainless steel, so it's automatically cooler!

Video Cable for iPhone and iPods Now Available

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 09:07 AM

http://www.ezgear.com/iPod/ezGearVideoCable.html

"The ezGear Video Cable for new iPod & iPhone allows you to play movies, music videos, TV shows, You Tube Clips, or Pictures stored on your newer iPod on any TV or ezVision Video Glasses. The ezGear Video Cable is part of the made for iPod program and incorporates Apple's Dock Connector with the new Authentification chip. The included a USB connector that allows you to keep your iPod powered while you watch. The USB connector can also be connected to your computer to sync your iPod or iPhone with iTunes."

The obvious plus here is that it's part of the Made for iPod program, meaning you won't have compatibility issues with it. At $40.00, the price is on par with what Apple charges for theirs, and frankly I may grab one just for trips for work; I've missed having that cable available to me since I got my iPhone.

Shuffle USB Adapter Cleans Things Up

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPods" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/re...pod-shuffle-3g/

"We've already seen the first Apple-developed accessory for the third-generation iPod shuffle; now Dexim has the first third-party accessory, Shu-Lip ($16). Designed as an alternative to Apple's iPod shuffle USB Cable, Shu-Lip is an aluminum USB dock for the shuffle with a standard full-sized USB plug on one end, and a shuffle-specific headphone port power and sync adapter on the other."

I love my 3G Shuffle, and I think this adapter is one of those things that Apple should've tossed in the box instead of the stupid little pigtail thing they did. It's nicely made and iLounge has a lot more in the way of photos from various angles. If you didn't know Apple didn't make it, you'd never guess it.

APRIL FOOLS: Marketplace for Mobile Snags Some Big Names

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 05:30 AM

http://www.businessinsider.com/micr...pp-store-2009-3

"Microsoft (MSFT) is talking up its App Store "Marketplace For Mobile" at the CTIA mobile powwow in Vegas today, and has announced some very big names will be writing apps for Windows Mobile phones."

Microsoft has lined up some big names for partners in the "Marketplace for Mobile" store for mobile apps, and I for one am very excited! Sling Media, CNBC, AccuWeather.com, Zagat Survey and Netflix are among the 27 companies that have partnered up with Microsoft to be a part of the planned Windows Mobile app store. This is a great start to a store that hopes to tap into the mobile app market, perhaps slowing down the growth of that other store. You know the one.

Proporta Offers Protective Crystal Case for Unibody Macbooks

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Laptops" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P0...4484&t_mode=des

"The Impact Protective Crystal Case (13" MacBook) is designed to keep your MacBook safe and sound at all times. Crafted to the exact specifications of the device, its scratch resistant top shell adds almost no bulk, yet offers unrivalled protection against knocks, impact damage, and any other surprises that life might have in store."

I've wanted something like this for my MBP since the day I got it, but if I had a MacBook I'd surely snap one of these up. Aluminum cases look great, but they dent like nobody's business, so every extra bit of protection helps, and at $43.95 (USD) it's something you may want to consider. After all, your notebook is a $1300 investment!

Keep Your Table Clean With iPhone Coasters

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Talk" @ 11:00 AM

Nothing wrong with a little kitsch to keep your table clear. I think I would get a set of these if they weren't $60, but nonetheless they are quite cool.

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Coming. Soon. Cheap.

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.ohgizmo.com/2009/02/10/m...iced-and-dated/

"Well here's something I've been eagerly awaiting for a few months now. MonoPrice.com (who doesn't actually make the cable as far as I know) has revealed that come March 15th they'll be selling a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter for the low, low price of just $14.25."

Well, it's a little later than initially promised, but I don't care. Monoprice.com is where I buy all my cables when it comes to audio cables and particularly HDMI cables and I'll definitely be snatching up one of these the second they become available.

It's Showtime!

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.ohgizmo.com/2009/01/29/s...hone-to-any-tv/

"If you’re the type that loves to show off pictures (or even video) to everyone you meet, you’re going to love this new iPod/iPhone accessory from Scosche. I don’t usually go around showing of dozens of pictures on my iPhone to friends and family, but if I did, I might look into one of these showTIME adapters. This cable is pretty simple and straight-forward. Just plug one end into your iPhone or iPod and the other goes into the RCA inputs on a TV. You can then control a slideshow of your favorite pics, or even show off a video or two if you like."

This is a great find by OhGizmo and another reason to love my iPhone. I know it isn't the first device to have TV out, and I know the quality won't be the best ever, but when traveling, hooking my iPod up to a hotel TV was something I used to do quite regularly. This should be just as useful as that old retractable cable was years ago!

iControlPad Closer to Reality

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.icontrolpad.com/

"OK, so it took MUCH longer that we thought to get the iPad to work with the touch, iPhone and 3G - blood, sweat and tears - but it does and it will also support iStore apps if the creator chooses to put in support. So, here is the video if you have not already seem it, Zod leaked it via his excellent website:"

Considering how miserable the controls are on most of the games in the app store, I relish the chance to get one of these in my hand one day. Honestly, I can't stand accelerometer controls, and touch screen buttons aren't usually twitchy enough for action games. This might be one of the best hardware accessories ever made for an Apple device if developers support it.
