One Last Black Friday Post

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 06:00 AM

"The stingiest of Black Friday retailers, Apple, will be offering some shallow discounts this weekend. But if a Mac or iOS device is on your list this year, check out these alternatives that will save you cash and possibly from being mocked by someone in a blue shirt holding an iPad."

One last post before we head into the Thanksgiving Holiday, and this one should help ease some of your frustration. The list has several ways to shop online and to make the experience bearable, perhaps you won't even have to leave your house!

Black Friday This Week, Are You Prepared?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 05:00 AM

"Online and retail stores are already starting to promote their upcoming "Black Friday" sales. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States and marks the traditional start to the holiday shopping season. The day brings early store openings and deep discounts from many retailers, and ranks as one of the busiest shopping days of the year."

I avoid Black Friday sales like the plague, but if you are a brave soul then these ads will at least help you plan out your attack for the day after Thanksgiving. I prefer to shop online, so I wait til CyberMonday, or poke around at Amazon since they will have a sale online on Black Friday. So too does Mac Mall or Mac Connection. And this year Living Social is getting in on the act with deals sent out several times a day on Friday and Cyber Monday.

iPad and MacBook Air are the Winners

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 09:44 AM

"Apple saw a healthy demand for all of its products across the board on Black Friday, but the iPad and new MacBook Air were particularly strong sellers over the weekend, according to financial experts."

Gene Munster and his band of analysts spent some time in Apple stores on Black Friday, and noticed that the iPads and MacBook Airs were the most popular items, which goes along with recent polls. The 11-inch MBA was really moving, but overall Macs were selling about 8 per hour, roughly the same rate as last year at the same time. Typically, according to the analysts, Black Friday accounts for 10% of holiday sales. So, did you venture out on Black Friday or did you wait until today's Cyber Monday sales to make purchases?

Online or In Person, That is the Question

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 12:00 AM

"Four days left until Black Friday! Time to start camping out in front of your computer. Amazon this morning kicked off Black Friday week with a landing page devoted to the consumer holiday. The page is devoted to more than just Friday, with "doorbuster-style deals now through Cyber Monday"--a full week of discounts, starting today."

If you are like me, I avoid Black Friday shopping like the plague. No deal is worth dealing with the crowds in my opinion, but over the last few years I haven't had to thanks to the Internet. You can go to the Black Friday Deals page to get some bargains, and it's actually up and running now so you can get a jump start on shopping. But they aren't the only source for online deals as this story from Appletell proves, listing a number of online deals you can take advantage of right now. And for you Xbox fans, you aren't left out in the cold since Microsoft has some deals for you as well. But if you just have to go out and brave the crowds, a story posted at TechCrunch may be of use to you, as they recommend using DealMap to find all the best Black Friday shopping deals in your area. So if you choose to sit on the couch, or brave the crowds, there is some help for you. Good Luck!

How Are You Shopping This Year?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 06:00 AM

"Amanda Thomas Perry used to skip sleeping on Thanksgiving night so she could be at Lowe's or Wal-Mart before dawn on Friday for the special "door-buster" deals."

And now she starts shopping on Thanksgiving day, online. That is pretty much the way I shop these days, as I HATE dealing with all the crowds. On top of that, I'm usually able to find what I need online versus driving to several different stores if I had to search the "old fashioned" way. How about you, online or do you venture out and brave the crowds?

Black Friday Deals So You Can Make a List!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 06:00 AM

"Black Friday is a week away, and thousands of markdowns are already announced. Our master list of Giz-friendly deals-a hefty read-includes similar items priced differently at different stores. Keep it refreshed, cuz we'll be updating it all week."

Nice rundown of some deals and also some that aren't such a great deal. In case you are going to be brave and venture outside, checkout the list for some ideas. Or if you are like me and going to be doing some online shopping, you can still find the list useful. TUAW also has a list on their site as does Macworld so no excuses about being uninformed!

Happy Black Friday!

Black Friday? Yea, There is an App For That

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 11:27 AM

"We've heard about the possible deals coming from Apple on Black Friday, but what about every where else? Well, you could visit each website and trawl Google for the latest offers, but that's too much effort, right? Wouldn't it be much easier and convenient if, say, there was a handy iPhone app available that collected all the offers available on Black Friday from all the major retailers, and gave you this information in a simple, easy-to-use application?"

I guess if you don't want to search through all the ads from the Thursday paper, or if you don't get the Thursday ad-filled paper, this would come in handy. The ideal thing from my perspective is that it searches online deals and not just brick and mortar specials. The TGI Black Friday app also has a search function so you can find just what you are looking for with a lot of product info to help in your buying decision. This isn't the only app available however, as a search for Black Friday on the iTunes store turned up several, some free and some paid. But this app is free so it won't cut into your Black Friday budget.

Apple's Black Friday Event

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 10:00 AM

"The day after Thanksgiving, which this year falls on November 27th, is also known as Black Friday, and it marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping craze. Capitalizing on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, Apple has announced a "special Apple one-day shopping event" on November 27."

From the Apple website: "Come back to the Apple Online Store this Friday for a special one-day-only shopping event. You'll find lots of great iPod, iPhone and Mac gift ideas - all with free shipping." There are rumors about what will be offered as far as discounts, but the only way to find out for sure is to stop in on the 27th.

In England we don't have Black Friday, but the idea of national discount day sounds pretty good to us. Simply enter the promotion code BLACKFRIDAY at the cart page to receive your discount (US and Canada only, 11/28 only, Proporta branded products only). Happy bargain hunting."

The folks over at Proporta sure are in the holiday spirit lately, aren't they?

If you're into what they're offering, you'll definitely want to to hit up their site today and grab some goodies.

Update: Proporta has fixed the issue some of you were having. Enter the code VINCENT15 to receive that 15% discount. I tested it myself and it is indeed working. The code is valid until 12/5.

Apple's Black Friday Sale Begins

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple News" @ 06:00 AM

So Apple has lifted the curtain and unveiled their Black Friday sale prices. Some of the deals are pretty good ($101 off a MacBook, for example) and may warrant a look if you're in that market. Of course, the best part of the sale is that not everything for sale is made by Apple. They have a Canon Digital Rebel XSI (I wonder if that changed from the XSi to the XS?) for $498 with the EF-S 18-55 F.3.5-5.6 IS lens and the V-Moda Vibe Duos for $78 (they're regularly $109 in the store, which is what I just paid for my new pair). Don't wait, though, because this is a one-day only sale.

Overall it won't shake the earth to its core, but it will save you a few coins. Share your sale successes with us in the forums so we can all revel in a few sheckles saved!

Apple Planning a Big Black Friday Something

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple News" @ 08:00 AM

How many of you saw this in your e-mail yesterday?

I don't know what exactly they're planning (I mean, they'll never call it a "sale." Apple doesn't do "sales."), but it might be worth checking out your local (or online) Apple Store on Friday just to see what they're offering. I think I've hit my Apple quota as far as purchases this year (new iPhone, new MacBook Pro, 2 TB Drobo) but I'll still check it out. You never know what elese might catch the old eyeball. Anyone else planning on doing some big time shopping Friday?
