If Only it Helped the Devils Win

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 10:00 AM

"The moment has at long last arrived puckheads! Now available as an In App purchase on the NHL Gamecenter Free App on the iPad you can unlock GameCenter Live to gain access to live game video and more."

The free version of NHL GameCenter for iPad [link] is actually pretty good, but if you want even more hockey pick up the NHL GameCenter Premium edition [affiliate link] for $19.99 USD. You get scores, stats, schedules, news and profiles with the free and premium versions, but with the premium version you also get video highlights, live game radio and some condensed game video. To top it off, you can also use this premium app to log in with your online GameCenter Live ID and unlock the live video on the iPad. If you aren't and you want to catch some of the live action on your favorite NHL team, you can upgrade for $119.99 USD from within the app (cheaper than the online price of $169.99 USD). It might sound steep but if you are a hockey fan and want to be able to watch all the games of your team, it isn't too bad of a deal. It's cheaper than the football packages and you get more games. I really have to hand it to the NHL, they make accessing live games very easy, regardless of device.

Game Center Icon in iTunes

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:00 AM

"Last night Apple updated iTunes to version 10.0.1 and perhaps the most important new feature is Ping Sidebar. Besides the new Ping features Apple fixes tons of bugs and added a neat little time saver to the App Store."

But this feature isn't just specific to the updated iTunes 10.0.1, as it is showing up on my version 10.0.0 of iTunes. Nonetheless, I love this feature, makes finding games that work on Game Center that much easier!

iOS Game Center, The Complete Guide

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.maclife.com/article/feat...game_center_ios

"With iOS 4.1, Apple released a completely new social gaming platform for the iPhone, iPod touch and in November, the iPad called Game Center. Game Center is the mobile equivalent of Nintendo's Wii Network Play, Xbox Live, or Playstation Network. When you download games that have been designed to support Game Center, you can interact with leaderboards, special per-game achievements, and even multiplayer support complete with VoIP."

A step-by-step walk through of the new Game Center that comes with iOS 4.1. I have signed up (you can find me as Oduibne), I haven't had much of a chance to play any of the so far limited games that are available. You can also find some cursory information at Apple, or check out the list of available games on iTunes.

Game Center Opens in the App Store

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 04:30 AM

"If you're trying to keep track of all the newly updated, Game Center enabled games for iOS 4.1, look no further than the App Store where Apple has gone and created a special page just to list them for your viewing - and buying - pleasure."

Is this something that you are going to take advantage of and use? Most of my gaming is done on a console ie Xbox 360 but I can see how this will be popular for those on the road or just trying to kill some time. Gaming head to head is so much more interesting than gaming against the computer.

iPhone 3G Not Supported in Apple's New Game Center

Posted by Joe Johaneman in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/apple-prov...ws-launch/58264

"Apple has updated its Game Centre overview page today to provide details on which devices will be supported when the social gaming network goes live on Wednesday with the release of the new iOS 4.1 update."

If you're still holding onto your iPhone 3G, you won't be able to use Apple's new Game Center. I'm not surprised by that at all. The 3G is over 2 years old now, and handset technology changes rapidly. I'd be surprised if Apple could get it working at all on the 3G without some major effort and a lot of headaches for 3G users. If you really want Game Center, you'll either have to upgrade to a new iPhone, or buy yourself an iPod Touch (2nd gen or later).

... New and Improved from Apple ...

Posted by Michael Knutson in "Apple News" @ 02:30 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/153...nt_summary.html

"As expected, Apple refreshed its iPod lineup Wednesday, unveiling redesigned versions of its iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle music players. But the company didn't stop there, using its annual fall music event to also announce an update to its iTunes software and an overhaul of its Apple TV set-top box."

Lots of new and improved products from Apple announced today. Almost everything available today, with the exception of the new $99 smaller Apple TV, shipping in about four weeks. Some additional welcomed news: iOS 4.1 will be available shortly and will include bug fixes and GameCenter; iOS 4.2 will be available in November, and will bring the iPad feature-set equivalence with the iPhone, and will also introduce iPad printing. Details can be found here [ link ].
