I have no idea how Apple designs products.

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 04:00 AM

"Apple's pulled off another successful product launch. You know what that means! Time to try to trash it! Quick, to the baloneymobile! And if you like baloney, you're going to love the new iPhone rumor."

Great article by The Macalope.

At 8am PST the following countries started selling:

Some Tips for Better iPhone Photos

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 12:00 PM

"In the five years since the iPhone Photography Awards (IPPA) launched, the iPhone camera has gone from disappointing to out-snapping Nikon as the most popular camera on Flickr."

Awesome photo. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that one of the most common rookie mistakes is "Gratuitous use of iPhone processing apps." There are so many it's hard to figure out the best one for you, and to learn that the iPhone camera is just fine for capturing those "in the moment" photographs, I won't worry about finding that perfect app. I just need to practice so I can enter this contest! What are your thoughts? Have you found an app that really does make you a better iPhone photographer?

Is Your New iPad at 100% Charge? Well, Maybe Not...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:00 AM

"As pointed out by Ars Technica, a report on the iPad by Dr. Raymond M. Soneira of DisplayMate suggests the tablet device is not fully charged even when the on-screen meter says 100 percent."

When I first charged my new iPad, I thought it took longer than it did on my old one, and apparently it does. It takes up to 5 hours to charge the new iPad, and according to this report, when it says it is at 100%, it really isn't. The solution is to let it stay on charger about an hour after it hits 100%. And this isn't just an iPad problem per Dr. Soneira, it happens with numerous devices. So this is a good heads up, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a problem. What are your thoughts?

Hopefully a Simple Fix For iPad WiFi Problems

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 12:05 PM

"This morning we reported that a number of new iPad owners are suffering from poor Wi-Fi performance on their new tablet. If you're one of the unlucky few, then this simply fix might just solve the issue, and in turn save you a visit to the Genius Bar."

If you are having WiFi issues, you might want to try this before going to Apple. All you have to do is go into Settings > General > Network > WiFi. Once you locate your WiFi network, tap on the blue arrow to the right of it and then select "forget this network." After that add it back in and hopefully your WiFi problems are gone. If that doesn't work, then you will have to reset the network settings under Settings > General > Reset. Otherwise, you may have to make that trip to the Genius bar after all.

Is Your New iPad Overheating?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

"If you picked up a new iPad this past weekend, you might have experienced something Apple had not advertised about its latest tablet. Numerous customers are complaining via message boards that Apple's third generation iPad is overheating, according to The Daily Mirror."

There are some posts on Apples discussion boards about overheating issues, but I haven't experienced it with mine. Have you experienced this?

iLounge Reviews the New iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

"Apple's first two iPads were barnstormers."

After being dismissed initially, something about the name being stupid and no connector ports, the consumer showed how much they did like them as evidenced by record sales and creating a market that Apple still owns. So iLounge takes a look at the new iPad and does a little comparing in this very thorough review. Definitely worth the read if you are considering purchasing or if you are on the fence. Even if you already committed and purchased the new iPad like me, you might find it an interesting read.

New iPad Garners 5% of Web Traffic Already

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:30 AM

"Just a few days after its debut, the third-gen iPad is grabbing almost 5 percent of the Web traffic among all iPads tracked by Chitika."

It appears new iPad owners didn't waste any time in getting online with their new toy. You can watch the activity in real time at the Chitika site here.

AT&T Has Record iPad Sales

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:30 AM

"AT&T announced on Monday that the launch of the new iPad set a new single-day record for sales and activations of Apple's touchscreen tablet."

In the 24-hour period starting the morning of Friday, March 16, AT&T says it had the best sales period ever for an iPad. They didn't release specific numbers, but Apple confirmed that the new iPad had a record start. I am a bit curious to see the numbers though, to give it a comparison over previous models since it was the biggest launch ever, opening in 10 countries over the weekend.

Real World Test of the iPad Battery, As Well As a Comparison

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 09:30 AM

"CNET reporter Eric Franklin spent his weekend torture-testing the battery of the new iPad, the iPad 2 and the Android-powered Asus Transformer Prime. He took each device, charged it fully and then drained its juice by continually playing a move. All these tests were conducted in airplane mode so WiFi, 4G or LTE connectivity would not affect these results."

What he found was that the iPad 2 lasted 14.2 hours, the new iPad lasted 12.8 hours and the Asus lasted 9.6 hours. The Asus did last 15.3 hours when tied to an external keyboard dock that had it's own battery, but why wouldn't it with extra juice right? You can read his report here.

Want to Switch Your iPad Data Plan? It's Not That Hard to do...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:30 AM

"One of the reasons to get the new iPad is to take full advantage of the 4G LTE wireless connectivity options offered by cell carriers. But what if you already have an iPad, and already have a data plan for that iPad?"

A simple walk through of the process, for both AT&T and Verizon data plans, and it's surprisingly easy.

3rd Generation iPad FAQs From Macworld

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:55 AM

"With Apple's Wednesday introduction of the third-generation iPad, many of the questions people and pundits have spent the past few months obsessing over have been answered-but not all."

And now Macworld attempts to answer those remaining questions with this FAQ list. And there is some good background information within these questions so it's worth the read for sure.

iPad 3? iPad HD? iPad? Does it Matter?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

"To hear critics rail and complain, Apple fell on it face yesterday when it failed to differentiate the new iPad with the "3″ or "HD" moniker that it had been rumored to hold in the days before its official unveiling."

I tend to agree with the author, that the name of the device is the iPad, drop the "new" and let's move on. I don't see the differentiation between MacBooks, other than Pro or Air. And I see the iPhone going the same route eventually. What are your thoughts?

The New Apple?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 02:00 AM

"I've watched the new iPad event twice now."

Interesting opinion piece on the latest iPad event and what the author thought about the event. But more importantly, it is also a piece about how the participants handled themselves.

The New iPad, What You Need to Know

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:04 PM

"With Apple's Wednesday introduction of the third-generation iPad, many of the questions people and pundits have spent the past few months obsessing over have been answered-but not all. We know it has a nicer screen, a faster processor, better cameras, 4G networking, and voice dictation. But even if you've read our live blog, chances are there are still bits of info you want to know. Here are all the details we've been able to dig up about Apple's newest tablet."

Macworld gives a nice rundown of what the new iPad is bringing to the table, an FAQ for potential buyers if you will. I know one thing for sure about the new iPad: my 32GB WiFi version will be delivered on March 16th. Anyone else pulling the trigger and picking up a new iPad? If so, what version and why? For me, based on experience with my 1st generation iPad, I have never missed having 3G on it. If I need connectivity, I just tether with my iPhone, but to be honest most of my usage is on WiFi. 32GB version might be a bit overkill for me, but I'd rather have too much than too little storage. Ok, now it's your turn!

Some Sites Live Blogging Apple's Live Event

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Events" @ 07:00 AM

"After months of rumor and speculation, Apple will finally be announcing its plans for the iPad 3 this Wednesday from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The event will begin at 10:00am PST (1:00pm EST), at which point you'll be able to join Appletell right here for our live blog of the event."

And they aren't the only site. Besides AppleTell's live blog, you can also use any of these sites to follow along:

iPad 3, or is it iPad HD? What Else Will Happen Tomorrow?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:11 AM

"As I've argued before, there's a good chance the third-gen iPad will be called the "iPad HD." The rumored tablet is expected to feature a pixel-packed Retina display as its flagship feature, and the "HD" suffix could help differentiate it as a newer, higher-quality device."

This does make sense, since something similar happened with the iPhone 4, but the only sure thing is that there is a lot of conjecture about what exactly will happen tomorrow. Apple TV refresh? Also makes sense due to the supply shortages of this wonderful little device. How about an iPad mini? Not so sure about that one, at least for this event. And a new one for today is the interesting hint from Verizon about "Something Big" coming. LTE perhaps? The one rumor that I really hope comes true is a redesigned cover for the latest iPad. I never really liked the smart cover due to the lack of back coverage, but the supposed new cover provides the protection. Whatever is announced, I'm just hoping I'm able to get an upgrade for my iPad original, since polls are showing 74% of current iPad 2 owners are planning on upgrading. What are your thoughts on what will be announced tomorrow?

Get Some Cash for That iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:00 AM

"In anticipation of the announcement of an updated iPad from Apple next Wednesday, some iPad owners are already generating quick cash from their older models."

Seems appropriate to post this now that the new iPad is "supposedly" going to be announced on March 7th doesn't it? I have an original iPad that I'm thinking of selling so I read this article with interest, and I'm glad I did since it appears I'm going to be able to get $170 USD for it based on the info I provided here. That will take a big chunk of the damage for the new iPad I'm guessing. There are other options listed in the article as well, so if you are considering selling, it's worth reading.

Photos of Apple Store in Amsterdam

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 10:00 AM

"We already knew that Apple would officially open the doors to a new flagship retail location on the ground floor and mezzanine of the Hirsch building at the Leidseplein in Amsterdam."

But little did they know it would be so beautiful! And with room enough for 300 employees to take care of the needs of the customers, in 14 languages no less. Great series of photos of the new store that opened Saturday.

Apple at the Top of Fortune's Most Admired Companies

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 08:58 AM

"The 12 months of 2011 were an exhilarating ride for Apple of Cupertino, Calif. It went through a major leadership transition after the company lost its cofounder Steve Jobs and op-chief Tim Cook took the reigns and appointed several new executives. The iPhone 4S became a huge success and pushed Apple's market capitalization above the half a trillion-dollar valuation."

Changes good and bad through the last year for Apple, but Fortune Magazine still ranked Apple first on the annual list of most admired companies. The future of the company had some doubters with the passing of Steve Jobs, but it appears all is well and on solid ground, so far that is. And of special note, this is the 5th year in a row Apple has landed at the top.
