Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 11:35 AM

"Infinity Blade is on sale for $0.99 for a limited time."

The normally $5.99 USD game is on sale now for just $0.99 USD, quite a bargain! [affiliate link]. Or if you already have that, you can pick up Infinity Blade II for $6.99 USD [affiliate link].

People Appear Satisfied With the New iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:52 AM

"I love my new iPad and it appears that I am not alone."

I'm in the same group, of course I upgraded from 1st generation iPad so what's not to love right? The survey by Changewave that consisted of 200 new iPad owners shows 98% of them are satisfied with the device. Best feature? The retina display.

Tips to Improve Your iOS Device Battery Life

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

"Good battery life is essential for a mobile device to succeed in the post-PC era, and Apple's iOS devices continue to pack upgraded internals and improved battery technology into every product iteration."

But even with all of this improvement, advances in what you can do with your iOS device do cause the drain game to happen. So if you are tired of seeing that red lined battery image as pictured above, then this article has some good tips for you. I knew about brightness levels and the effect on battery life, but there were several other tips I was unaware of, such as in location services. So check it out and learn how to master your battery!

The Problem With Some Magazines on the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 06:00 AM

"Over the past several days, complaints about how bad magazines look on the iPad have been rolling in. The reason, according to Mashable, is that the older magazine apps simply weren't built to handle the new iPad's high resolution 'retina display,' so everything looks blurry."

In his reply to this article from FishbowlNW, I tend to agree with Michael Mulvey.

Alltop on the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

"If you're familiar with Alltop, you'll know that the site touts itself as being able to answer the question 'What's Happening?' rather than answering questions like 'How many people use Macs?'"

I love Alltop so I'm pretty glad they now have an app for it. Sounds like it works pretty well per this article, and the ads at the bottom aren't too intrusive. And it's free.

Apple Responds to Battery Problem: "There is no Problem."

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:45 PM

"Apple is responding to concerns that the new iPad has battery issues. Today, the company's Vice President of iPad marketing, Michael Tchao, went on record saying consumers have nothing to worry about. In fact, according to Tchao there is no issue at all."

You can read the interview here, but basically it is working as designed. What that means is that you can keep your iOS device plugged in as long as you like, due to the way the circuitry is designed, without fear of it being damaged. Tchao says it has always been a feature in iOS. What are your thoughts?

iPad Launches in 25 More Countries Today

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 PM

"As we originally predicted, Apple released the new iPad in 25 additional countries today, just a week after the original launch."

At 8am PST the following countries started selling:

Austria,Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.

Is Your New iPad at 100% Charge? Well, Maybe Not...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:00 AM

"As pointed out by Ars Technica, a report on the iPad by Dr. Raymond M. Soneira of DisplayMate suggests the tablet device is not fully charged even when the on-screen meter says 100 percent."

When I first charged my new iPad, I thought it took longer than it did on my old one, and apparently it does. It takes up to 5 hours to charge the new iPad, and according to this report, when it says it is at 100%, it really isn't. The solution is to let it stay on charger about an hour after it hits 100%. And this isn't just an iPad problem per Dr. Soneira, it happens with numerous devices. So this is a good heads up, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a problem. What are your thoughts?

Smart Cover Issues? This Might Be Why...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 02:00 PM

"Many customers bought a new iPad last weekend, and some found that Apple's Smart Cover doesn't work with certain previously Smart Cover-compatible cases. Mark of Mark's Hangout has discovered why, and he's posted a detailed explanation."

You can read the detailed explanation here, but basically it is an issue with some older smart covers and the sensor placement. Alignment must be spot on or they don't work, and those older smart covers were made with the magnet facing either way, which doesn't cut it on the new ones. No word yet from Apple, so the only solution now appears to sell your old smart cover with your old iPad and upgrade. Or just upgrade to a newer smart cover.

iPhoto or Photoshop Touch?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 01:09 PM

"The Retina display on the new iPad is one of the tablet's defining features, and it makes the device ideally suited for multimedia work, including image editing. Apple's new iPhoto app and Adobe's Photoshop Touch are taking advantage of that opportunity by bringing powerful photo editing and sharing tools to the iPad."

I haven't done much with either program, although both are on my iPad. I'm not really sure which is the best for my needs, and I'm still weighing both options but at least with this article it makes it clearer. What are your thoughts on these two programs for iPad?

Hopefully a Simple Fix For iPad WiFi Problems

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 12:05 PM

"This morning we reported that a number of new iPad owners are suffering from poor Wi-Fi performance on their new tablet. If you're one of the unlucky few, then this simply fix might just solve the issue, and in turn save you a visit to the Genius Bar."

If you are having WiFi issues, you might want to try this before going to Apple. All you have to do is go into Settings > General > Network > WiFi. Once you locate your WiFi network, tap on the blue arrow to the right of it and then select "forget this network." After that add it back in and hopefully your WiFi problems are gone. If that doesn't work, then you will have to reset the network settings under Settings > General > Reset. Otherwise, you may have to make that trip to the Genius bar after all.

AT&T Has Record iPad Sales

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:30 AM

"AT&T announced on Monday that the launch of the new iPad set a new single-day record for sales and activations of Apple's touchscreen tablet."

In the 24-hour period starting the morning of Friday, March 16, AT&T says it had the best sales period ever for an iPad. They didn't release specific numbers, but Apple confirmed that the new iPad had a record start. I am a bit curious to see the numbers though, to give it a comparison over previous models since it was the biggest launch ever, opening in 10 countries over the weekend.

Want to Switch Your iPad Data Plan? It's Not That Hard to do...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:30 AM

"One of the reasons to get the new iPad is to take full advantage of the 4G LTE wireless connectivity options offered by cell carriers. But what if you already have an iPad, and already have a data plan for that iPad?"

A simple walk through of the process, for both AT&T and Verizon data plans, and it's surprisingly easy.

Restore Data on Your New iPad the Right Way

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 09:30 AM

"Last week, we showed you how to prepare your old iPad for today's upgrade to the new one. Now you have your new device, you'll want to ensure that all of your data from your old one gets transferred over during the setup process. Here's how to do it - the right way."

Apple certainly makes this easy, so wether you use the plug in version of backup or iCloud back up, you will get a prompt when setting it up. Select "Restore From iTunes Backup" and let the magic begin. Make sure, however, that you choose the most recent backup if you are restoring via iTunes.

3rd Generation iPad FAQs From Macworld

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:55 AM

"With Apple's Wednesday introduction of the third-generation iPad, many of the questions people and pundits have spent the past few months obsessing over have been answered-but not all."

And now Macworld attempts to answer those remaining questions with this FAQ list. And there is some good background information within these questions so it's worth the read for sure.

iPad 3? iPad HD? iPad? Does it Matter?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

"To hear critics rail and complain, Apple fell on it face yesterday when it failed to differentiate the new iPad with the "3″ or "HD" moniker that it had been rumored to hold in the days before its official unveiling."

I tend to agree with the author, that the name of the device is the iPad, drop the "new" and let's move on. I don't see the differentiation between MacBooks, other than Pro or Air. And I see the iPhone going the same route eventually. What are your thoughts?

The New Apple?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 02:00 AM

"I've watched the new iPad event twice now."

Interesting opinion piece on the latest iPad event and what the author thought about the event. But more importantly, it is also a piece about how the participants handled themselves.

The New iPad, What You Need to Know

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:04 PM

"With Apple's Wednesday introduction of the third-generation iPad, many of the questions people and pundits have spent the past few months obsessing over have been answered-but not all. We know it has a nicer screen, a faster processor, better cameras, 4G networking, and voice dictation. But even if you've read our live blog, chances are there are still bits of info you want to know. Here are all the details we've been able to dig up about Apple's newest tablet."

Macworld gives a nice rundown of what the new iPad is bringing to the table, an FAQ for potential buyers if you will. I know one thing for sure about the new iPad: my 32GB WiFi version will be delivered on March 16th. Anyone else pulling the trigger and picking up a new iPad? If so, what version and why? For me, based on experience with my 1st generation iPad, I have never missed having 3G on it. If I need connectivity, I just tether with my iPhone, but to be honest most of my usage is on WiFi. 32GB version might be a bit overkill for me, but I'd rather have too much than too little storage. Ok, now it's your turn!

Trading in or Selling Your Current iPad/iPad 2? Make Sure its Wiped Clean!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 11:00 AM

"There are two ways to erase an iPad. There's the right way and the wrong way."

As you can see from the screen shot above, the right way is pretty straightforward. Go to Settings, then General, and click on the "Erase All Content and Settings" button. Then turn it back on and make sure that it has been reset. Simple. The wrong way is to do it through iTunes, since you don't want to corrupt or change your current content file. Otherwise you won't be able to put your stuff onto your new iPad 3, or HD, or whatever they will be calling it.

Square for the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 09:04 AM

"Square is looking to expand its reach into retail using its new Square Register app for the iPad."

It works for Apple so why not other companies? And it looks good too doesn't it?
