Learn All About iTunes 10

"iTunes 10 is here, we've been using it for a while, and now we've got a complete walkthrough for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users. If you're new to iTunes 10, especially if you're new to iOS devices, we'll help you get up and running quickly."

A pretty complete yet simple run down of all the features in iTunes 10, and it's a quick read so you don't have to spend too much time studying and can get right to doing. One thing mentioned in the comments was an interesting tip. With the colored iOS capacity bars, they update immediately when you check or uncheck the sync option under the tabs for the device you are going to sync. This will certainly help you plan if your device storage is on the edge.

"You can now plug in someone else's iOS device and listen to their music on iTunes 10 without the Enable "manual sync mode" option. How'd we miss that?"

Nice feature. I always expect to have gems like this discovered as more and more people use the new software. Have you noticed anything that wasn't previously announced or documented?

No More Ringtone Feature in iTunes 10

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 09:00 AM

"Mac Life notes that Apple has removed the create your own ringtone feature from iTunes 10. The feature introduced after the launch of the original iPhone in 2007 allows users to download a song from iTunes for 99 cents and then turn it into an iPhone ringtone for 99 more cents."

I never used this feature, but I never like to see functionality disappear from programs. Perhaps they found that it wasn't getting that much usage, but even if that is the case, I don't see a reason for it to disappear.

All You Need to Know About Yesterday's Apple Event

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Events" @ 05:30 AM

"Too busy to read our liveblog coverage of Apple's September iPod Event? Everything you need to know about Apple's new products is below the fold, including details about the new iPod Shuffle, Nano, iPod Touch, AppleTV, iTunes and iOS update."

Pretty good summary of yesterday's Apple event, in case you weren't following along on any number of the live blogs or the live streaming by Apple. As you may have guessed, I was pretty excited about the Apple TV portion and I think they are on the right track with it. The price point is low enough, I think, that this will become more than just a "hobby" for Apple, and topping it off with the Netflix integration is icing on the cake. Definitely a big step in the right direction. The other high point for me was the update to iTunes with Ping. Seems like a logical way to keep track of your favorite artists and find out information on their next concert. The social aspect of it wasn't that big of a deal for me, but I can see how it might be for others. And of course the fixing of the proximity sensor was a big deal, especially since reports had it that it would not be fixed with this update. How about you? What were your highlights from yesterday's event?
