Bookmarklet for 1Password in iOS Not Coming Back

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/01/29/unof...klet-for-ios-5/

"1Password is one of my most-used iOS apps, since I need it to log in to any site which requires a password."

According to Agile, they are discontinuing the bookmarklet that used to be a part of the iOS version. That's too bad, because I used to use that a lot. They say they are coming back with something even better so let's hope they are right. In the meantime, it is easy enough to open up 1Password on your iPad (or iPhone) and use the built in browser to access your password protected sites. Or you can try the workaround listed in the article, but for me it isn't worth the trouble.

1Password Hits The Mac App Store

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:00 PM

http://www.insanely-great.com/news....nely+Great+Mac)

"1Password version 3.9 is now available exclusively via Apple's Mac App Store. This version also requires Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, and will require users to pay a $20 upgrade fee."

This is an annoyance for me. I purchased 1Password via their site, and have updated via their site since owning it. Now, starting with 1Password4, they will only be selling it via the Mac App Store. And I don't mean that 1Password is the only annoyance, there are other companies that do this. I can understand it, it is just the transition that is the pain. At what point do I move to the Mac App Store version? At least with 1Password, they cut their price by 1/2 and will give you a free upgrade to version 4 when it comes out, and it will only come out via the Mac App Store. What are your thoughts on this process or transition that many software vendors go through? For me, I'm going to plunk down the twenty bucks and make the move [affiliate link].

1Password Updated to Work With Chrome

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 06:00 AM

http://thenextweb.com/apple/2010/11...ially-released/

"Let's face it, remembering passwords rots. If there is any single reason that people choose terrible passwords (or use the same password for everything) it's because remembering them is a royal pain."

I use 1Password all the time, and now it will work with Chrome. Update to v3.5 and it includes an extension for Chrome so you can get the same functionality if you tire of using Safari and prefer using Chrome. I like how they have done this version, as it gives you more information than the way it's done on Safari, but don't take my word for it. You can go to the Agile blog and read all about it.

1Password and Dropbox

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 09:30 AM

http://brooksreview.net/2010/07/1pa...-using-dropbox/

"1Password can now sync via the cloud using Dropbox - this is a long awaited feature and is implemented really well. 1Password is a must have for any computer user - it stores all your passwords and automatically logs you in to sites. It can help you create secure passwords and even store billing addresses and credit card info making checkout really fast on sites."

A welcome update indeed! Fair warning, this only works on the 1Password Pro version for the time being, but will be available soon on all versions once approved by Apple. To enable it, once you get the new version and if you have already been syncing via Dropbox, all you have to do is update your app. Macworld has a tutorial on how Dropbox syncing in general works if you aren't familiar, and if you already have 1Password and Dropbox syncing enabled, you can find out the details at 1Password on how to set up the automatic syncing.

1Password Updated to 3.0.4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

http://prmac.com/release-id-10365.htm

"Agile Web Solutions has announced 1Password 3.0.4, an update to its award-winning password and identity manager for the Mac. This deceptively minor update adds over 60 new features, changes, and fixes, and is available free to registered users."

Some new features with 3.0.4 such as Quick Look which lets you see file attachments for 10.6 Snow Leopard users to better organize and view files that were saved in 1Password. They also added tagging, improved the Wi-Fi syncing process (thank you very much) and improved importing options for those switching from other programs to 1Password. This is a paid upgrade but if you have purchased 1Password 2 on or after February 1 2009, you get free license upgrades to the new version. If you are outside that free upgrade period, you can still get a deal with single license upgrade at $24.95 USD and family upgrade for $34.95 USD, 17% and 30% savings respectively.

1Password 3 Beta Open to Public

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/143...ss_products_mac

"Encumbered by passwords? Eager to try unreleased software? Want to help out some classy Mac developers in their quest to kill bugs dead? If you missed out when Agile Web Solutions was offering a private beta of 1Password 3 to customers on Snow Leopard, there's good news! 1Password 3 is now available as a public beta for one and all. Yes, that means you. Feel special? You should!"

I've found this very useful especially since it has an accompanying app for the iPhone/iPod Touch. This is a beta so you are forewarned (backup your keychain!), but I haven't had any problems with it so far and I like the much improved interface for the desktop. Also, this requires you to have at least OS X Leopard installed. They have added several new features, more info on that available at their website.

1Password Updated for Safari 4 Beta

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/139.../1password.html

"Apple's release of a public beta version of Safari 4, a new version of their Web browser, has spurred Agile Web Solutions to offer 1Password 2.9.9, an update to their password management software. A free upgrade for all paid 1Password customers, 1Password 2.9.9 costs $40."

Well this didn't take long did it? I use this program and it is very handy, especially since they have the iPhone app that ties in with the desktop version.
