UK Also Offering iPad 2 on Launch Day

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 07:00 AM

"At least three major third-party retailers should be carrying the iPad 2 during the US launch, information indicates. A definite partner is Best Buy, which has already posted a splash image advertising a March 11th rollout. Meanwhile, a source claims that iPad 2 SKUs have entered inventory systems for Walmart and Sam's Club."

And besides those US retailers, UK retailers Orange and T-Mobile will offer it when it's available, tentatively on March 25th. And in other news, Rogers of Canada is also going to offer the Personal Hotspot option when iOS 4.3 comes out.

How Do You Plan on Purchasing Your iPad 2?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:00 AM

"Apple announced the second generation iPad on Wednesday, March 2, but it won't be available until Friday, March 11. Like most everything Apple sells, you can order online or pick one up at your local Apple Store, but with this launch you might need to do a little extra planning ahead of time."

There won't be any pre-orders it appears, so if you want one on launch day, you will have to wait in line either at an Apple Store or at one of the other retailers, such as Best Buy or Wal-Mart. If you can wait a day or two, you will get free shipping from Apple. You can get more info at a page Apple set up just for iPad 2 purchasers. Oh, and on launch day you won't be able to purchase until 5:00 pm.

Verizon iPhone Launch Stark Contrast to Usual AT&T Launch

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:00 AM

"The Verizon iPhone launch was, by all accounts, a very calm one-at least by the standards we're used to. Past iPhone launches on AT&T have been, shall we say, much more chaotic. So what's the deal? Verizon lovers touted this lack of chaos as evidence of Verizon's superior customer service vs. AT&T, while Verizon (and Apple) haters used the seemingly low turnout to argue that the launch was a failure."

Good points made, about how the pre-orders may have mitigated some of the line issues, and of course weather related problems may have also had something to do with it. The analysts that were questioned said that the sales throughout the day remained strong, they just didn't have the overwhelming crowds that usually accompany an iPhone launch event. And no complaints on activations either, so I would say it went pretty smooth for Verizon. No idea yet on how many they have sold, but Chitika, a mobile advertising firm, released info that showed Verizon iPhones were already using 3% of the traffic of all iPhones using the system. I think we can do the math and know that isn't a small number.

Apple and Microsoft, Together Again

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 07:00 AM

"Guess what's coming to San Diego in two weeks? If you answered iPhone 4, congratulations for being right but not giving the right answer. Microsoft plans to open a new retail store on the same day (its second in California)."

It's not so much that they are opening a Microsoft Store on the same day as the launch of the iPhone 4, it's that they are opening the store next door to an Apple Store. Rather odd timing, perhaps they are hoping to get some of the residual interest that will be generated from the iPhone 4 launch and will get a few stragglers wandering in to check out what they have. This might really be good timing from them after all. Maybe Ballmer and Jobs will show up and have a stare down.
