Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 12:26 PM

http://www.mactech.com/2010/08/02/o...-ship-october-0

"Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit (http://www.microsoft.com/mac) will ship Office for Mac 2011 in late October. Reportedly, the prices will undercut the current version of the office application suite by 20% to 50%."

We reported on the videos they were releasing, outlining the new features of Microsoft Office for Mac 2011, and now we have some prices and a release date. There will be two editions, a Home and Student as well as a Home and Business version. The Home and Student will be priced at $119.00 USD for a single license ($149.00 USD for family pack for three Macs) while the Home and Business version will be priced at $199.00 USD ($279.00 USD for two machines).

O2 and Orange Announce Launch Date for iPhone 4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:00 AM

"Great news for UK Apple fans: O2 UK has now become the first international carrier to confirm that it'll be serving up the new iPhone 4 in time for launch on June 24th."

I'm sure they were worried they would be delayed like they were for the iPad, but it looks like they will be selling the iPhone 4 right along with the US of A on June 24th.

iPhone 4, is it All You Thought it Would Be?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 06:35 AM

"Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the company's next generation iPhone during his World Wide Developers Conference keynote presentation on Monday. The new version of the combination iPod and smartphone looks like the images that leaked to the media, includes a front-facing camera for the first time, and is called iPhone 4."

In reading the blogs yesterday, I thought it was pretty funny when Steve said "Stop me if you've seen this before" as he unveiled the iPhone 4. Good to see some humor displayed about it. But I digress! Lots of new features, over 100 or so including the new camera with LED flash, video calling, higher resolution display and, according to Steve, the "thinnest smartphone ever." Besides the improved camera and the cool video calling features, what I really liked to hear was the improved battery life. So, now that you've had time to digest yesterdays announcement, what are your thoughts about the iPhone 4?

"Apple's iPad 3G will ship on April 30, the company announced today. (Including early pre-orders and in-store sales.) That's keeping with Apple's "late April" promise. Late April, indeed."

Well, yea, that is about as late April as you can get I suppose! They will be available in the stores after 5:00pm the same day according to the Apple press release.

Apple Changes the Sort for Apps

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 09:00 AM

"James Thomson of PCalc fame noted late yesterday on Twitter that the App Store's again updated the way it deals with app sorting: 'Looks like sort by release date in [the] App Store only sorts by original release date now, not update date. Say hello to page 342 of Utilities...'"

Basically what they have done is changed the way the apps are sorted, using the original release date instead of the last date the app was updated. From what I gather, there was some abuse of this by developers, doing minor updates to get their app higher on the sort list. I'm all about fixing the abuse, but this isn't the right way. Perhaps an option to display the list you want, as in last updated, new release, etc. What are your thoughts, good? Bad?

Speculation Ends, Snow Leopard Available on August 28th

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.apple.com/macosx/

"The world's most advanced operating system. Finely tuned. Upgrade from Mac OS X Leopard for just $29.00."

The speculation is over. August 28th Mac OS X Snow Leopard will be released to all of us looking for an upgrade, and at $29.00 USD, it isn't all that much so I'm likely to do it. You can get a list of all the refinements at the Snow Leopard "What's New" page.

In a related story, Piper Jaffray expects Apple to sell about 5 million copies of this software.
