Officers Use iPhone for Facial Recognition

"Next time someone points their iPhone camera your way they may not just be fooling around -- they may be some shady law enforcement operative checking your face against their database."

Pretty cool mod of the iPhone, tied into their database. All they have to do is take a picture and within a few seconds they get a response from the Massachusetts' database. Initially only the gang unit is going to get it but eventually it will be made available for statewide distribution. In my day job, we make many contacts with subjects that lie (I know, hard to believe) about who they are, so we spend a lot of time searching name combinations and various databases trying to determine identities. I can see this adding to the safety, as well as time saving, of the officers, not to mention the dispatchers.
