Time For Apple to Wear the Sandwich Board

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://news.cnet.com/8301-10797_3-5...subj=News-Apple

"A U.K. judge ordered Apple to publish a notice on its UK website and in British newspapers informing the public that Samsung did not copy the iPad's design, Bloomberg reported today."

This is equivalent to the kid that steals and has to wear the sandwich board stating as much. Seems pretty silly to me that the judge is doing this. If the judge is so concerned about the image of Samsung, perhaps he should carry around a sign that says "I'm sorry Samsung, you are cool too" since he said their product was not as cool as Apple's. What are your thoughts?

Scanner Pro Updated for iCloud Syncing

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 02:08 PM

http://readdle.com/

"The latest version, Scanner Pro 4.1, brings a completely new interface to the iPhone, focusing on the most important things to make it more streamlined and intuitive."

And now with iCloud syncing, you can see the same items on your iPhone or iPad. Great update to this handy application. I find myself using this at least once a day to contribute to my goal of going paperless. Check it out in the iTunes store.

The R*Case for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/175697/ipa...ngly-versatile/

"This is the R* Case, and it might just be my new favorite iPad skin, based only on this video. And not just because the case itself, with two old 80s-skateboard-style rails on the back, looks very useful. It's also because the video itself is an engaging mix of hard work and high-cheese."

Well the video wasn't that bad, rather funny actually. And this really is an innovative case. The rails don't seem to deter from the functionality either, although at first they do appear a little odd. You can find out more at TouchNS.

iMovie Trailers on the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.maclife.com/article/howt...ler_imovie_ipad

"If you're like us, you return from vacations and special events having filmed loads of video, with grand ambitions of one day compiling all your clips into brilliant home movies."

I love these step by step, quickie instructional articles, especially when it comes to programs that I've been meaning to use but haven't, such as iMovie on the iPad. It usually reinforces the credo "it's easier than it looks," every time I read one of these.

Hey Kids, Tired of Holding That iPad on Long Drives?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/175733/dri...-movie-theater/

"There are several iPad cases which have straps to let you fasten them to the headrests of your car seats so people in the back can watch movies. The trouble is, they're almost all bulky and ugly, as they try to cram too much into one case."

And this one is no different in the design arena. But hey, unless the screen is built into the headrest, you are going to run into the same problem with every holder. $39.99 USD will get you a set of your own, so they aren't too expensive.

"You can give impressive presentations from your iPad‚ and perhaps even leave your laptop behind‚ if you prepare well and know what to expect."

Great tips on how to make that presentation with your iPad, even covering what equipment you will need such as adapters and how best to use Keynote with iCloud.

iBank for the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 02:28 PM

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/arti...=rss_everything

"IGG Software announced the immediate availability of iBank for the iPad on Wednesday. The personal finance management app has previously been available for the Mac and iPhone, but now is available with an iPad-native interface."

This is one of the better financial apps if you want to have your banking on your iPhone as well as your Mac. And now it's even better that they have released a version for the iPad. It's available now for $14.99 USD.

iPad Charging is Certainly Low Cost

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/06/22/the-...charge-an-ipad/

"All of our electronic gizmos, whether as large as a 27" iMac or as tiny as an iPod nano, need electricity to thrive."

Interestingly enough, you can find out exactly what it costs to power an iPad all year at the Electric Power Research Institute, and it turns out to be about $1.36 USD per year. Laptops, by comparison, are about 6 times as much in the usage department.

Bento 4 Released for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 08:23 AM

http://www.technologytell.com/apple...etell+Appletell

"Bento has always been a pretty good app for the iPad, providing database functionality that's simplified from its FileMaker roots, but still manages to provide tools you'd otherwise need a dozen separate apps to achive. Bento 4 for iPad has now been updated with a streamlined interface, more tools, and access to the robust Bento Template Exchange."

The update includes 40 retina display ready themes, customizable templates if you don't want to use one of the hundreds of free templates you can link to and the additional view options of table, split and full screen. And to top it off all versions are on sale until the end of the month. Through July 31st you can get the iPad version for $4.99 USD and Bento version 4.1 for the Mac for $29.99 USD.

IGM Reviews the Apple Smart Case for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.insanely-great.com/news....t=Google+Reader

"The Smart Case builds on Apple's Smart Cover design, providing full protection for the iPad."

I have seen several critical reviews of the Smart Case for iPad, mostly complaining about the poor fit. After watching this video I'm not so sure they are correct as it sure looks like it fits nice to me! I may have to get one now, as the Otterbox case I'm using is a bit bulky for normal use. What are your thoughts?

Apple's iPad Smart Case Reviewed

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/re...pad-smart-case/

"Released alongside the iPad 2, Apple's iPad Smart Cover followed a pattern the company had established with its earlier iPod and iPhone cases: the functionality was appealing, but the price was much too high, and the coverage wasn't impressive."

Meh, I think I will keep my OtterBox Defenderafter reading this review.

High Output Charger for You Road Warriors

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 06:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5917749/the-hype...ads-one-charger

"If you travel withe a bunch of gadgets, this one's for you-accessory maker Sanho has dropped the HyperJuice Plug, a charger capable of juicing up two iPads at a time."

There is a lot to like about the HyperJuice Plug, such as the ability to charge two iPads at once, a retractable plug and 15,600 mAh of charging power. Not to mention it comes in six different colors so you can coordinate it with your iPad cases. The only downside is the $130.00 USD price, but that does go a long way to getting rid of all your other power chords doesn't it? You can find out more here.

Office 2 HD Updated to Allow Track Changes. Awesome!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/172013/off...s-and-comments/

"Many of you will have read the above headline and thought "Meh. Whatever." And yet here you are, still reading. Well, if you got this far, here's the reward. Office2 HD, the MS Office-compatible suite for the iPad, has just gotten support for Track Changes and comments."

This is actually great news! You can't do it on Pages, and I could have used this feature last week when we were proposing changes to our contract. It's available now for $7.99 USD in the iTunes store, so tell me why am I waiting for Microsoft to come out with Office for iPad? I guess I'm not!

iPads in the Airport

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 AM

http://gigaom.com/apple/coming-soon...(GigaOM:+Apple)

"This might be the most exciting thing to happen to airports after charging stations and XpresSpa. Very soon three major North American airports are going to have select terminals decked out with about 2,500 iPads available for anyone's use."

I had a chance to use the ones they have set up at JFK about month ago, and it is a pretty nice set up to provide information to travelers. It also had charging station for your various gadgets.

Keychain Battery From Mophie

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/170063/tin...ne-emergencies/

"Imagine the scene: You're in the middle of a particularly intense iPhoneography session, and the photos you're getting are gold. You snap one keeper after another and then shift over to SnapSeed or some such app to really spice things up. But you're so engrossed in the process of editing that you don't notice your iPhone's battery is almost dead until you get the dreaded pop-up warning."

At only $35.00 USD, it's not that bad of a price for some extra battery life from Mophie. I don't run into this problem myself but if I were on the road a lot and depended on my iPhone, I might pickup this thing for some extra peace of mind. It only gives you about 30% life but that might be all you need to get you to the next power outlet.

Halopad, One of Those "Why Didn't I Think of That" iPad Stands

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/170059/hal...sal-ipad-stand/

"The Halopad is - not surprisingly - an iPad stand in the shape of a halo. Not that you'll find this halo floating over the heads of saintly prophets - instead it is simply a chunky, lightweight plastic ring which has slots cut into it for propping the iPad at various angles. It's simple, it's cheap, and it's not ugly."

It's usually the way I feel about most Kickstarter projects though, "why didn't I think of that?" If you get in early, you will save $9.99 USD off the future retail price of $29.99 USD.

iBackFlip Review

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/05/27/ibac...-for-your-ipad/

"Back at Macworld | iWorld 2012, TUAW editor-in-chief Victor Agreda had a chance to talk with the creator of the iBackFlip Somersault (US$89.95). Now that this iPad bag has been in the wild for a time and has gone through a few design revisions, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to review the Somersault."

What piqued my interest was the fact that you could fit 11 inch Macbook Air as well as an iPad inside this bag as I'm constantly on the lookout for the perfect bag. As of today, however, I am still in search mode. This one doesn't have quite enough storage for my tastes, and I don't need a bag that I can wear and keep functionality of my iPad. If you do have such a need, this might be the one for you! If nothing else, at least go to the end of the article so you can enter to win the bag and sell it or give to someone that does have a need for this particular type of bag.

ESPN Reporter Goes Fully Digital With the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/05/28/how-...r-with-an-ipad/

"ESPN Pit Reporter Dave Burns covers NASCAR's premiere Sprint Cup Series for the network. He's been reporting on racing for many years, and recently abandoned his personal paper-based note system for carefully selected iPad apps."

I always read with interest any story that shows how someone has replaced their note taking methods or laptop usage with the iPad, since that is exactly what I'm trying to do on a daily basis. Interesting story of how the ESPN reporter came up with his own note taking sheets years ago and modified them into use on a iPad, basically the only thing he uses these days. For my note taking though, I prefer Notability. What are your favorite apps for note taking on the iPad?

Use Reminders More Efficiently With These Tips

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/169797/bes...d-mac-ios-tips/

"Apple introduced Reminders alongside iOS 5 and Siri (for the iPhone 4S) this past October, and while the world wasn't exactly stunned, the app made an impression. The trick with any app, of course, is finding ways to use it efficiently."

That is always the case isn't it? Finding the best way to utilize what a program has to offer is key to getting the most out of it. I've tried out a number of reminder programs, and usually ended up going with iCal, that is until Apple came out with reminders and so I use them now, mainly due to the geographical reminders that you can set up. What app do you use to keep you organized?
