Bare Bones Updates TextWrangler to 3.1

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.mactech.com/news/?p=1013454

"Bare Bones Software has released TextWrangler 3.1, an update to the text editor. The new version introduces a newcommand-line tool, "twfind," which provides access to the app's multi-file searching from the Unix command line."

This is a great little text editing program, and best of all Bare Bones offers it free. The latest version requires Mac OS X version 10.4 or later, and its Universal so it works on Power PC or Intel Macs. If you are curious just what did they do to update this program, check out their release notes here

Boot Camp 3.1 Is Here

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/145...l_mwnws_h_crawl

"Remember when Apple promised that Boot Camp would be updated to officially support Windows 7 in late 2009? It turns out that promise was a few weeks off, but the company has finally delivered, only one week after Microsoft's beloved Patch Tuesday."

Ok folks, it is here, finally. Boot Camp 3.1 in 32-bit version and 64-bit version is in and with it comes support (officially) for Apple's wireless keyboard and the Magic Mouse. If you are going to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, you can do so via the Boot Camp Utility upgrade. They have also fixed bugs associated with the Apple trackpad and as a bonus, the infared sensor on all MacBooks turns off when not in use. Read the article for more info on how to do this the efficient and safe way because I don't want you to miss anything! I may in fact do this now, I had been holding off on my older MacBook Pro.

Facebook Updates Their App to 3.1

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ne...s-push-support/

"Social networking site Facebook has released version 3.1 of its official application for the iPhone and iPod touch."

The app, free in the iTunes App Store, is available now and has added the option for Push Notifications for friend requests, wall posts and comments among other things. It also gives you the option to sync Facebook with your address book contacts. This really is a well done app, although recently I've had problems viewing pictures on it. So I'm hoping this will fix that problem as well.

How is Your iPhone Battery?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 07:00 AM

http://blogs.computerworld.com/1477...prit_apple_asks

"Apple is investigating complaints about iPhone battery life on the new 3.1 OS. Some users point fingers at new behavior switching between 3G and EDGE modes."

Numerous reports about shortened battery life after upgrading to 3.1. Apple has even contacted some users and sent them an attachment that allows batter life logging, in hopes of narrowing down the problem. In one thread, several users report that just letting the battery run down to empty and recharging seemed to fix their problems. I haven't had any problems like this, have you?

OS 3.1 Hits Beta: Nice Enhancements

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009/0...-voice-control/

"Early word from TiPb commenters and the Twitter show some new iPhone 3.1 features found already: * Non-destructive video editing means trimming a clip no longer saves over the original video but gives you the option to “Save as copy…” * Voice Control now works over Bluetooth * iPhone vibrates when moving icons * Updated AT&T profile to 4.2 * Updated modem firmware to 5.08.01"

Interesting stuff!

I didn't expect Voice Control to work over Bluetooth, but I really REALLY want it to. So far, I'm quite happy with 3.0 and these updates, though minor, are kinda cool. Oh, and in my initial impressions post, I wrote about Voice Control not working well. Since then, it's improved and I can't quite explain why. I use it every day now.

Oh, and the non-destructive editing of videos would be great. Sometimes you want to post multiple clips from a long video and as the iPhone is configured now, you can't. I'm definitely looking forward to that.
