Apple Updates for MacBook and Airport

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 09:00 AM

"If you're set to automatically grab new updates, you're likely to notice Apple's Software Update burbling insistently in your dock for your attention, after Apple released a couple of updates of both their Airport software and the MacBook / MacBook Pro's EFI."

The Airport Update 2009-002 fixes a problem that involved the inability to turn the Airport on or off after upgrading from Leopard. There were also some network connectivity problems that it addressed. The MacBook EFI Update fixes the horrendous sound the SuperDrive was making on some machines. Both available as automatic updates or via the Apple Support Page

Apple Fixes Slow SATA Glitch in MacBook Pros

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Laptops" @ 07:00 AM

"MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.7 addresses an issue reported by a small number of customers using drives based on the SATA 3Gbps specification with the June 2009 MacBook Pro. While this update allows drives to use transfer rates greater than 1.5Gbps, Apple has not qualified or offered these drives for Mac notebooks and their use is unsupported."

It may have been reported by a small number of users, but it affects every single purchaser of the new MacBook Pro! Come on Apple, don't minimize this one. It's a biggie.

I also like how they CYA'ed with the "unsupported" bit in the description for the download. When did Apple become Microsoft?

MacBook Pro EFI & SMC Firmware Updates Now Available

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Laptops" @ 07:47 PM

http://support.apple.com/downloads/...ware_Update_1_2

Apple has released EFI and SMC updates for the new MacBooks that were introduced in October. The updates apply to the new aluminum MacBook, the new MacBook Pro, and the revised MacBook Air and increase stability, fix the infamous sleeping issues, and do all kinds of other fun stuff including fixing the charging light on the Magsafe adapter.

All of your necessary updates are available in Software Update for your downloading, installing, and updating pleasure. If you're one of the lucky ones who snagged a new machine recently, let us know how the updates went for you. Be aware that the updates will download separately. Software Update will show you the first update. Do it. Then run Software Update again and you'll be presented with the second.
