Google Translator for the iPhone

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 06:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2011/02/...ranslating-app/

"The App Store is filled with apps that allow you to you translate text from one language to another. They have various levels of complexity and sophistication, some are very basic text-only translators, some are more advanced like the incredible Word Lense. Nevertheless, despite powering most of these apps, Google didn't have one of it own."

Well now they do have something to offer with this iPhone app, free by the way, called Google Translate [link]. It supports 57 languages and has speech recognition for 15 languages. Nice addition to the Google family as long as it works ok, and I have yet to test it out.

Kääntää Mille Tahansa Kielelle Via Google

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Thoughts Site Updates" @ 07:00 AM

"Nyt voit kääntää mitä tahansa ajatuksia Media sivustoja tahansa haluamasi kieli kautta Google Translate"

No, you haven't suddenly been transported to Finland. This is just an example of what the Thoughts Media sites are now offering: Google Translate. Just go to the sidebar to the right of the page, select any language from the list and the web page will be translated for you.

In case you are curious, the italic text above the graphic says "Now you can translate any of the Thoughts Media sites into any language you want, via Google Translate" and the title of the post says "Translate into any language Via Google."

Learn German With Your iPhone

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.ipodobserver.com/ipo/art...on_your_iphone/

"iPhone developer Chuck Smith has just announced German Course 1.0, a new application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. German Course is designed to help people learn German using their iPhones."

The program is designed to give you "mini" lessons that can be completed in a few minutes. The program was designed by Judith Meyer, the host of GermanPod101. From reading the reviews on the podcast page, sounds like she knows what she is doing, at least from the podcast perspective. Not sure how well this program will work for you if you want to learn German, but it will cost you $4.99 USD to find out.
