If you are looking for a simple, unobtrusive Internet radio program for OS X, I think you may be happy with something called Radium from CatPig Studios. This is a slick little program, that costs $16.00 USD to register (they also offer a 30-day full featured trial period) and sits in your menu bar when launched. The beauty of the program is it's simplicity.

NPR Unveils Official iPhone App

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 10:00 AM

"There are few public radio apps out there, but the official NPR News app takes some of the best features of these offerings and goes one step beyond."

NPR unveils their official app in the iTunes store and it sounds like it has a lot of functionality to it, especially since it is a free app. You can listen to live public radio stations coast to coast, hourly news update, read stories while you listen, bookmark favorite stations, find stations by GPS or by zip code and view a program guide to help you find your favorite shows. I think you can find at least one show you might like on NPR even if it isn't something you listen to on a daily basis.

Public Radio iPhone App Updated

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 12:00 PM

"On-demand moves off the laptop and into your pocket as public radio's wonderful new iPhone app lands. Ars explores the new app and thinks about a future where radio is on demand."

If I listened to regular radio (XM subscriber here) I might enjoy an app like this. If you listen to regular radio you might want to check this out. The app was updated this weekend and adds two of the most requested features by users of the initial app: station schedules and on-demand access to past shows. It also allows you to stream from any radio station throughout the US so you can hit just about any show you want. After checking out their website, it sounds like they did a major revamping of the original program to improve it based on users reviews. Come to think of it, I may have to check this one out. Free is a very good price, especially with all this functionality.
