Here is Your iPhone 5 Rumor Timeline!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

"Have you gotten a little confused with the timeline of all of the iPhone 5 rumors? You're not the only one."

Quite the info graphic, that has all the history of the iPhone 5 rumors since October of 2010. It will be interesting, as it always is, to see just how accurate some of these rumors turn out to be tomorrow.

Some Predictions About Apple's Fall Event

Posted by Joe Johaneman in "Apple Talk" @ 06:30 AM

http://blogs.computerworld.com/1667...next_from_apple

"Apple customarily hosts a special event in early Fall (frequently around September) where the company likes to introduce new music and consumer products. Here's a cut-out-and-keep guide to all the current speculation as to what the company could reveal in the weeks ahead."

Jonny Evans over at Computerworld goes through a laundry list of possible announcements for Apple's annual fall event. I think the idea of an iPod Touch with an A4 chip and a camera is almost a certainty, especially if it will run the iMovie app. I'm not so sure about the rest of it. I would love to see a new AppleTV, but I think when it does come, it'll run iOS. I really don't see a market for a 7-inch iPad, and I don't think Apple does either. The iPad is exactly the right size for what it does, and the iPod touch is exactly right for what it does. Something in between seems pretty useless to me. As for the idea that Apple will accelerate an iPhone 5 release; I find that extremely unlikely. What do you think of these rumors?

Why We Won't Write About the Jobs Rumor

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Thoughts Site Updates" @ 08:00 AM

Seeing as Apple Thoughts is relatively new to the scene, I felt it important to clarify why you didn't see us parroting the Steve Jobs rumor from yesterday (contrary to the insane speed with which it spread around the web).

We generally won't report on rumors (and if we do, we always make it super clear that we're not taking a position on them either way) unless they come from a super reliable source (preferrably multiple reliable sources). When I worked for the Apple Phone Show as a Producer and Writer, we were under strict orders to never post a single solitary rumor unless we knew the source and could take heat if it turned out to be untrue. I've let that stick with me to the point where I believe that's the direction I want to take Apple Thoughts in as well.

Ultimately, editorial discretion falls at my feet. For too long, I've watched many Apple-related sites report outrageous and ridiculous rumors as long as they could say they got it from someone or somewhere else. To me, that's as bad as starting a rumor yourself and you're not shielding yourself by not being the source. The Apple blogosphere and news sites live and die by rumors and innuendo, but we won't. I hold myself and my Editors to a higher standard. That may mean we miss a few things or when the broken clock is right for the second time in a day and one of the rumor sites hits one on the nose we'll be second to report it, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make to maintain our integrity and keep the trust of our readership.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this as well, so don't hesitate to leave them in the comments. I do hope you understand where I'm coming from here, and thank you so much for making this site the quick success it has already become. 2009 is going to be a big year for us and I want each and every one of you to be a part of it.

Mac Mini Not Dead Yet?

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Desktops" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...g_in_there.html

"Having read a blog post speculating that a discontinuation of the current Mac mini line overseas may be indicative of the product's ultimate demise, one advocate of the tiny desktops fired off an email with his concerns to Apple's newly-crowned Mac hardware engineering chief Bob Mansfield. Although Mansfield didn't issue a personal reply, a colleague in Apple's executive care division did almost immediately, offering no timetable for a Mac mini update but assuring that the company was well aware of system's market value, and suggesting the customer continue to exercise patience. 'I got a prompt reply by phone from an Apple executive care person essentially giving me no new information but assuring me that Apple knew the mini was a popular machine and to be patient," the customer told AppleInsider. "I certainly appreciated the contact, and I think it was a nice way of letting me know that rather than bug their head guys.'"

Now I have no reason to believe that this guy isn't telling the truth in any way, I just find it odd that Apple would break character by tipping their hands about future hardware plans. I am, however, comforted in the fact that the Mini may not be dead after all. We've discussed it on the forums for a bit and the general consensus of Apple Thoughts readers and staff would be that it would be a tragedy for the Mini to go the way of the dodo. Now, I put it in the hands of you, my dear readers. What do you think of this story? True? Not true? Wishful thinking? Or good news? I don't personally have an opinion on it except for hoping that it's true.
