How Strong is Your Brand Loyalty?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/08/17/stud...n-their-favori/

"Did you weep into your cornflakes over Antennagate last year? Me either, but a new study suggests that some people might have. According to Ars Technica, researchers at the University of Illinois discovered that attacks upon people's favorite brands can be perceived as attacks against their self image."

Now, I have been accused of being a fanboy in the past (shocker I know), some have even thought I was getting kickbacks from Apple because of my loyalty to the brand. However, attacks on Apple DO NOT make me cry and I don't think they are attacking my self image. So I think I am ok, but it was an interesting study nonetheless. I do have brand loyalty to a point. The point is when quality and customer service both take a nose dive. Once that happens, I don't go back to a product. I can deal with one or the other but when both are affected then it's time for me to find another company to supply the same or similar experience. So far with Apple, I have yet to experience this so yea, I stick with them. Their stuff just works (for the most part). What are your thoughts?

Get Cram for iPhone/iPod Touch FREE! Today Only

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 12:00 PM

http://simpleleapsoftware.com/blog/...-today-only/42/

"As many of you have probably realized by now, we don't have many sales and we don't do free very often. So here is your chance to take advantage of the deal no one can refuse, a FREE Copy of Cram for iPhone."

This is a pretty good program for what I paid for it (I can't remember the price, but it was at least $2 or $3 I think, when I was looking for a good flash card app for my daughter's iPhone), so this is a great deal for free. And it is only for today, as the price will go up $0.99 USD each day after until it gets back to the regular price. Head on over to iTunes now!

And if this isn't incentive enough they are giving 20% discounts for the desktop Mac version that normally sells for $29.95 USD for a single license, as long as you use the code "FINALS" when you check out.

Apple Wins Laptop Support Wars

"Remember when Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook described netbooks as ‘junky' at a time PC makers were flooding the market with the low-cost computers? A new reliability survey seems to defend Apple's decision to avoid entering the netbook arms race. Apple has earned the top spot as most reliable computer maker, dethroning ASUS, creator of the Eee PC netbook."

Apple scored 374, which put them ahead of ASUS on the study, which tracks both computer construction and support after the sale. Apple has about 9% of the market in the US and 2.4% of the service calls, whereas HP, for example, accounts for 24.9% of the sales with 18.5% of service calls. The rankings were Apple, Lenova, ASUS, Toshiba with HP and Compaq tied for 5th place.

Brain Cancer and Cell Phones, Survey Says?...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 09:00 AM

"This particular issue is far from settled, since it is a fact that certain levels of radiation lead to transcription errors and such, but at the very least, studies like this one reinforce the idea that we're not all of us going to drop dead in a couple years."

This was done by the Danish Cancer Society, and studied brain cancer rates over a 30 year period. So far so good according to the study, they have not found “any clear change in the long-term time trends in the incidence of brain tumours.” Ah well, there is a study for just about everything.

Kids More Connected Than Ever. Obviously.

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.theage.com.au/news/techn...0684317712.html

"THERE was a time when children's telecommunications meant two cans connected with string or, for luckier kids, a set of walkie-talkies. But today the mobile phone has become ubiquitous in school playgrounds, with children as young as five having their own. A company in England is even targeting toddlers with a phone designed in the shape of a teddy bear. Three-quarters of Australian children aged 12 to 14 own a mobile phone but by the time they are 15 that number surges to 90 per cent, according to figures from the Australian Communications and Media Authority. "Because it's parents who come in and sign up for the phones it's difficult to say exactly how much this area has grown but the age at which kids get phones is getting younger," says Carmen Gould, head of customer service at retail chain Crazy John's. "Whereas before it was often teenagers getting mobiles, it's not unusual now for parents to buy phones for children as young as eight.""

I spent Saturday afternoon at an outdoor event in Westchester, and I can tell you that there were plenty of kids there a hell of a lot younger than 8 even with phones of their own. On one hand, I always wonder what an eight year old could have to say that would require the phone being glued to their head all day long, but on the other hand I understand that parents may want a phone in their kids' hands as a safety precaution.

Anyway, the numbers don't lie and lots of kids have phones. Time have changed. Kids are more connected than we ever were at their age. For us, "connected" had nothing to do with wireless phones.

*sigh*

Stupid Study Blames Deafness on iPods

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPods" @ 01:00 PM

http://householdhacker.com/index.ph...-news&Itemid=53

"The audiologist suggests that the reason so many people listen to their ipod's with the volume turned up beyond what is safe is because they believe that the mp3 player manufacturers would not let their devices have volume settings beyond what is safe to listen to. Others may think that any setting other than maximum volume is safe to listen to for any amount of time. In the United States and other countries lawsuits have been filed against Apple because of hearing loss associated with use of iPods."

It must be that time of the year again. The time when all the quack doctors trying to make a name for themselves jump out of the woodwork and proclaim that young people are losing their hearing faster and faster because of MP3 players. If you remember, there was also a study a few years ago that blamed hearing loss on the range of sound reproducible in an MP3 file. Then, of course, there were the studies that said it was all about the headphones you used.

These dopey doctors even want you to believe that people aren't acting in a healthy fashion with their devices because they believe device makers wouldn't do anything to hurt them. Yep, since Apple and Creative love their customers so much, the devices must be safe to listen to for extended periods of time on full volume.

Frankly, if you believe that, there's a word for you: moron.

Apple Leads in Customer Satisfaction

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Talk" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ion_survey.html

"ChangeWave's survey also asked recent buyers to rank their new PC purchase as being very satisfied, somewhat satisfied, somewhat unsatisfied, or very unsatisfied. Apple claimed the top spot with 81% saying they were very satisfied, compared to figures of 67% to 50% from other top PC manufacturers."

Those numbers are astonishing. Only half of Lenovo buyers are happy with their 90 day old purchases? I'm sorry, but when the best numbers for PC manufacturers are held by ASUS at 67% satisfaction, that's a problem. The challenge for PC manufacturers will be figuring out what exactly people are unhappy with and making changes to fix it. No one should be that unhappy with their new computer that close to the return period.
