To Buy or to Wait, That is the Question!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:00 PM

"Now that the Verizon iPhone is here, you may be tempted to rush out and buy one. But there's no good reason to, unless you're extremely impatient or you don't care that much about money. If neither of those descriptors applies to you, then you're better off waiting."

When you consider early termination fees, until that is sorted out I wouldn't upgrade if I had any length of time on my Verizon contract. On top of that, a new iPhone is bound to be announced this June, so why lock into an old iPhone? Well, old by the time June rolls around anyway right? And when you consider some of the other points such as the advancement in technology that is sure to come, you really may be better off waiting. Personally I am not going to be one of the switchers as AT&T hasn't been all that bad for me, but if you are thinking about it, you may want to consider some of these points. What are your thoughts anyway, do you plan on switching? Or if you are a Verizon customer now are you going to make the early adopter plunge or wait until June?

Multiple User Web Browsing on Your iPad With Switch

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 03:00 PM

http://switchapp.net/

"Ever get nervous leaving your iPad around with your email account logged in? With Switch, your browser is protected by one password, automatically enabled when the screen is locked."

Interesting concept, but according to some of the comments it is a little buggy. But the iTunes page [link] has some info that they are waiting for Apple to approve the bug fix. If it works as it says, and some of the comments lead me to believe it does for the most part, then I think this would be a great way to use your iPad and not worry about things changing on it the next time you use it. At $4.99 USD it is a bit on the pricey side. Have any of you used this? If so, how has it worked for you?

What Phones Did iPhone Owners Have Prior?

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.businessinsider.com/char...ing-away-2009-7

"What phones are Apple's iPhone buyers throwing away? A lot of Motorola RAZRs. Some 29.4% of iPhone 3G buyers were upgrading from Motorola devices, according to Nielsen's Q2 2009 Mobile Insights Survey. About 11% of iPhone 3G buyers were ditching Samsung phones, and 9% were getting rid of RIM BlackBerry devices. About 9% were upgrading from older iPhones."

It stands to reazon that given the penetration of the Motorola Razr, a ton of people would be moving on from that and that's what the numbers seem to demonstrate. Also interesting is the "other" category which, based on what isn't included, I would reckon is made up largely of Windows Mobile devices from HTC seeing as HTC is one of hte largest manufacturers of phones in the US and isn't listed on this graph.

Interesting stuff.

Belkin Releases Switch-to-Mac Cable

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Talk" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.belkin.com/pressroom/rel...witchtoMac.html

"The new Belkin Switch-to-Mac Cable provides a simple way to transfer files, settings, preferences, and more from your PC to a new Mac computer. Unlike existing products where you have to drag and drop specific files you want to transfer, the Switch-to-Mac Cable-with its easy-to-use Migration Assistant-automatically moves your music, movies, photos, files, and Internet preferences, making the transition from PC to Mac as seamless as possible. Now that Mac computers support Windows® applications, a growing number of PC owners are switching to them, making the ability to work with existing PC files a necessity. The Switch-to-Mac Cable ensures a hassle-free experience when transitioning to your new Mac."

If you're looking to make the move to a Mac, the hardest part is migrating over your stuff. Belkin seems to have that in mind with the Move-to-Mac cable. We Mac users have had the benefit of built in OS X software to do the same thing for years called the Migration Assistant. I'm glad the ease of it has been extended to Windows users who want to join the cult buy a Mac. I may buy one just to help people switch. In the end, it'll end up making my life easier in the long run. Anyone else with me here?
