Word Lens, Translate Those Spanish Signs in Real Time

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.businessinsider.com/word...+Alley+Insider)

"Everyone this morning is talking about Word Lens, a new iPhone app that translates what's in front of you in real-time. It uses your iPhone's camera to find words in real life -- on signs, buildings, etc. -- and then translates them on-the-fly. And it looks pretty amazing."

This, in a word, is incredible. And from the looks of the video it is pretty fast, almost instantaneous, and no Internet connection is needed to use the app. The app is free on iTunes [link] but you need touse in-app purchasing to get the various language dictionaries you need. So don't be under the impression you will be able to use this right away, you still have to part with $4.99 USD to get the functionality. However, that is the 50% off price that expires at the end of the year so you only have about 12 days to get that deal. You can find more about this program at Quest Visual.

Kääntää Mille Tahansa Kielelle Via Google

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Thoughts Site Updates" @ 07:00 AM

"Nyt voit kääntää mitä tahansa ajatuksia Media sivustoja tahansa haluamasi kieli kautta Google Translate"

No, you haven't suddenly been transported to Finland. This is just an example of what the Thoughts Media sites are now offering: Google Translate. Just go to the sidebar to the right of the page, select any language from the list and the web page will be translated for you.

In case you are curious, the italic text above the graphic says "Now you can translate any of the Thoughts Media sites into any language you want, via Google Translate" and the title of the post says "Translate into any language Via Google."
