"Tweetie for iPhone was acquired by Twitter, and has been updated and released as Twitter for iPhone."

I just tried, and it is now available. If you are currently using Tweetie or Tweetie 2, you only have until the end of June to continue it's use. After that point, it won't be functional due to the changes in Twitter logins (go here for more info) and the fact the Tweetie apps aren't being updated to accommodate these changes. But Twitter for iPhone is basically the same app, except it is free.

"Twitter has been growing by leaps and bounds around the world. Mobile has always been a focus for us-starting with SMS which lead to the 140 character limit. People everywhere should be able to access Twitter without friction or confusion."

So to help people achieve this, Twitter has purchased Atebits, and with it the popular Twitter client Tweetie. Tweetie will be renamed Twitter for iPhone in a few weeks time, and along with it a new price: free!. Sure beats the $2.99 USD price tag that Tweetie now carries.

Among those new features are official retweets, geotagging and twitter lists. I love the list feature, and have been waiting for this one. Makes it easy to organize the people you follow, putting them into "lists" that you can make either public or private. Its a free update if you already have Tweetie, and if not, it's $2.99 USD in the iTunes store.
