Telstra Finally Offers Visual Voice Mail...For a Price

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

"Two and a half years after much of the rest of the world got access to the visual voicemail feature used on Apple's iPhone range, and a year and half after the service hit Vodafone locally, Telstra has implemented the option, announcing this morning that it would charge customers $5 per month for the privilege of using it."

$5 per month to use visual voice mail, after waiting two and a half years for the privilege? If I was a Telstra customer I think I would be slightly peeved at this announcement. Just like I'm peeved with charging me for the "privilege" of tethering my iPhone. Ridiculous, especially since rival Vodafone has been offering their visual voicemail for free... for two years!

Visual Voicemail Giving You Fits?

"...a momentary panic set in when I discovered my Visual Voicemail was absent and my phone was dialing up voicemail instead. Luckily the problem is easily resolved."

I ran across this while looking for another article, and thought it might be handy on the off chance that there might be those of you thinking about upgrading to iOS 4 and you run into this visual voicemail access problem. The fix is pretty easy, and outlined step by step in this article.

Visual Voice Mail Problems? This May Help...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 12:00 PM

"This happened to me last time I upgraded from my original iPhone to the 3G. I went to check messages, and instead of seeing the list of people who called, the phone simply dialed the voicemail number. The solution this time is the same as last time."

I never had a problem on any of the upgrades, perhaps I was just one of the lucky ones, but if you have had a problem this may be the fix for you. Basically, go to the AT&T site, log in and under Phone->Device Support, there is an option to "Reset Voicemail Password." Once you do this you will get a text from AT&T with a temporary password. Set up your iPhone voicemail again and use the temporary password, then change back to your original. This is supposed to work but I haven't tried it since I haven't had that problem.
