Sirius XM App Updated Today

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 04:03 PM

"As hinted earlier, Sirius XM today posted an iOS 4-native version of its Premium Online radio app."

The update fixes some bug issues but also adds the ability to listen to Sirius XM in the background if you have an iPhone 4. Best of all it's free (but the only way to use it is if you have a Sirius XM subscription).

Sirius Unveils SkyDock App

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.ipodnn.com/articles/09/1...ctual.hardware/

"Although its companion hardware has yet to be released, Sirius XM has released a dedicated XM SkyDock app for the iPhone and iPod touch. Users are able to tune into various XM satellite radio stations, including artist-specific stations for the likes of Elvis Presley and the Metropolitan Opera. While listening, stock and sports tickers provide visual feedback."

This works similar to the Sirius XM Radio app already in the iTunes App Store, but this turns your iPhone or iPod Touch into a functioning Sirius XM radio rather than an internet listening device. This will allow you to get premium programming that you won't get (due to rights issues) without the SkyDock. The SkyDock was supposed to be available October 18th for $119.95 USD, but there are some reports of early availability at Best Buy.

Sirius/XM Skydock for iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.iphonealley.com/news/sir...one-ipod-touch?

"On Thursday, satellite radio provider Sirius XM announced the launch of XM SkyDock, an accessory that will allow iPhone and iPod touch users to receive live XM and "The Best of Sirius" satellite radio in their vehicles."

This is very slick, and I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one. At $120.00 USD it isn't cheap, but it actually does quite a bit. The problem with using just the iPhone/iPod Touch app alone is that you can't get some of the premium programming due to rights issues. With this setup, since it's no longer "portable", your app has the full lineup. You can also use it to play your music through your stereo system. And of course it charges the iPhone/iPod Touch while you use it. I don't have built in XM or Sirius radios in any of my cars, we just use the car kits, so this would replace those and look a lot better in the process.
