Old Navy Testing Apple's EasyPay PoS System

"Apple has made their first step in providing point-of-sale, or PoS, systems to other retailers. The systems are modified iPod Touches that allow employees to ring up purchases, accept credit signatures and wirelessly print receipts to stationed printers through the store; if that sounds familiar, it's because this is the same EasyPay system Apple uses in many of its own retail stores, albeit rebranded as "ZipCheck.""

Being an Apple Store regular, I've often wondered when Apple's PoS system would start showing-up at other retailers. It's fast, accurate, elegant, allows me to avoid standing in a queue to pay, and can print or email a receipt. I get my emailed receipt before I've even left the store. The system is currently running in test mode in a few Old Navy Stores (on iPod Touches as "ZipCheck"). BTW, Old Navy is owned by The Gap, where Steve Jobs was on the board of directors from 1999 to 2002. Coincidence? You be the judge. Is the traditional cash register going the way of the typewriter?
