AT&T Announces Home Security Service Called Digital Life

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 04:00 AM

"AT&T has announced a new home security and automation service called Digital Life that comes with an iPad and iPhone app with a bunch of security and remote control options."

I like these home automation set ups, makes it easy to monitor things in case you aren't home. And with this one you actually get them to install and monitor. If you are in Dallas or Atlanta, you might want to go to the AT&T site for this since those areas are the first to go live this summer.

Project Jarvis

"Okay, there's no HUD display like Tony Stark had and it isn't voiced by Paul Bettany, but former Apple Store employee Chad Barraford has created Project Jarvis, a digital assistant that greets him, Tweets for him, and can even tell his family when he has a headache and dim the lights of his apartment before he reaches home."

I enjoy reading about things like this, finding out just what people can do with an idea and some technological know-how. Pretty interesting project so far, and all he needed (besides some accessories) was a 4 year old Mac Mini and Apple Script. You can read the Boston Globe story here as well as see video of it in action.

Apple Based Automation for Your Home

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 09:00 AM

"Evolution Home Entertainment Corp. is pleased to announce the Canadian launch of Savant - the only AppleĀ®-based control and automation solution that unifies audio, video, lighting, security, climate, communications, Internet, and more, into one seamless experience."

This really looks like a slick system, based on Apple's iTunes, that you can even control from your iPhone or iPod Touch. I'm not exactly sure what the system cost is, but if the app is any indication at $49.95 USD, I'm sure it is well outside of my reach. If you want more, check out the PDF of the brochure. And if you want a demo and are going to be in Canada on December 2nd, check out the newswire posting for info on the launch event, or contact Evolution Home Entertainment Corp direct for information.

iMazda

http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/...-functions.html

"This YouTube video did come to our attention on April Fool’s Day, but it is nonetheless convincing — not to mention really cool. In it, you meet Jonathan Oxer, his Mazda RX-8 and his iPod Touch, with which he controls basic functions of the car via WiFi. He locks and unlocks the doors, starts and stops the engine, opens the trunk and displays a telemetry window that shows off data like RPM, speed, temperature, battery voltage and fuel level (the heavy British accent and use of the word “petrol” may hint at Jon’s country of origin)."

I was thinking about how cool this all is. My new truck has OnStar and I'm wondering how long it'll be before GM releases an app that'll run diagnostics on your car through your OnStar system (something they're able to do anyway). I think any guy my age has KITT (the car from Knight Rider) envy, and would love to have as KITT-like a car as possible.
