Happy 35th Birthday Apple II

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Classic Apple" @ 03:40 PM

http://techland.time.com/2012/04/16...iconic-product/

"Thirty-five years ago, on April 16 and 17, 1977, more than twelve thousand proto-geeks flooded into San Francisco's Civic Auditorium."

They were all excited about this new thing called the personal computer! The Apple II to be exact. Interesting story about the launch of the Apple II if you are into history, well worth the read.

Happy 4th Birthday MacBook Air

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/01/15/the-...ur-years-later/

"Four years ago today, Apple introduced the MacBook Air, then the world's thinnest notebook. It was Steve Jobs's last Macworld appearance and the next to last Macworld keynote for Apple."

And it's only gotten better since the first year they were introduced. i5 or i7 processors, SSD storage and the Intel HD 3000 graphics processor (along with the backlit keyboard return) are some of the details on the mid-2011 model. I wonder what next for this amazing device? Any thoughts?

Happy Birthday to Jason Dunn!

Posted by Darius Wey in "Thoughts Media Status Updates" @ 07:03 PM

Our fearless leader, Jason, celebrated his birthday today, so please join me in wishing him a very happy birthday. With our server hiccups in the morning, it perhaps wasn't the best start to the day, but with that resolved, I'm sure the day only got better. Jason, thanks for all that you do in helping make Thoughts Media the best community to discuss all things that beep and blink. If you'd like to thank and wish Jason a happy birthday in a more tangible manner, or simply find out what makes him tick, take a look at his Amazon wish list.

Now, let's serve some cake!

Happy Birthday OS X!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 02:12 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/158...l#lsrc.rss_main

"On March 24, 2001, the iMac was less than three years old, the iPod was still more than six months away, and Macs ran at astounding speeds of up to 733MHz. But most importantly, Apple on that day released the first official version of Mac OS X, changing the future of its platform forever."

Code named "Cheetah" and the first shipping version couldn't even play DVDs or burn CDs. But it sure has improved over the years hasn't it? Like the author said, I still have my annoyances but overall I don't ever see myself ever switching back. Happy 10th birthday OS X.

Happy Birthday Steve Jobs!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Talk" @ 05:43 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/steve-jobs...are-video/83388

"Many people have seen the 1984 SuperBowl commercial introducing the Macintosh to the masses. In the fall of 1983, Jobs gave a preview of this spot to an enthusiastic crowd of Apple shareholders and insiders. With full Reality Distortion Field in place, a young, passionate Steve Jobs describes the history of computing, IBM's missed opportunities, and their current threats to Apple and the computing industry."

56 years old today, so enjoy the classic moment in Apple history.

Happy Birthday iPad!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:07 PM

http://blog.onswipe.com/apples-ipad...ter-infographic

"Happy iPad day everyone! We put together a special birthday treat in honor of iPad's introduction one year ago on January 27, 2010. In one short year, this device has blown away expectations and changed the world for the better. This is the first of a frequent series of infographics we will be putting together on the tablet market and media industry."

Time flies, and this surprised me actually, I didn't think it had been a year since the introduction of the iPad. 14.8 million sold, and as the graphic above shows, that is about five times more than they were predicted to sell. Any ideas on how well it will do this year? I'm betting not as good with all the other options out there but then again, who knows what the iPad 2 (rumored to be coming out soon) will bring to the table. What are your thoughts?

Happy 27th Birthday Mac

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Classic Apple" @ 07:13 AM

http://osxdaily.com/2011/01/24/happ...ly+(OS+X+Daily)

"Happy Birthday to the Mac! Apple introduced the very first Macintosh on January 24, 1984, beginning an era that is still going strong 27 years later."

Check out these specs folks:

  • 8 MHz processor;
  • 128kb of RAM;
  • 9″ black and white display with a 512×342 resolution;
  • 3.5″ disk drive

And for the paltry sum of $2,495.00 USD it could all have been yours. Wow. Pretty incredible how far we have come isn't it?

Happy 10th Birthday OS X

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 03:48 PM

http://www.9to5mac.com/26321/macosx...e+Intelligence)

"As Macworld notes, today is the 10th anniversary of the release of MacOSX. As a wayback machine experience, here's the Key(note)master introducing it at Macworld 2000."

My first glimpse was on an iMac G4, which I still have and is still cooking along.

Look Who Turned 2 Over the Weekend

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.tipb.com/2010/07/10/happ...ne,+iPad,+iPod)

"2 years ago today Apple launched the iTunes App Store and it's safe to say the mobile world hasn't been the same since."

Some of the facts are rather startling when you see them in print, such as a year ago they had $1 billion in revenue with about 56,000 apps, and as of the 2nd birthday they have over $5 billion in revenue with over 225,000 apps from which to choose. Incredible. The biggest thing for me, though, coming in as a die hard flip phone user, is that it changed the way I thought about phones and how much I now count on my iPhone every day. How about you? How has the App Store revolution affected you?

Happy Birthday Mac! Well, a Day Late Anyway

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/01/24/happ...h-birthday-mac/

"Despite all odds, the Mac has survived to its 26th birthday. On January 24th, 1984, Steve Jobs pulled a 128K Mac out of its case in front of a crowd of reporters, turned it on, and let the computer introduce itself to the world. The rest, as they say, is history."

Wow, 26 years. Seems like only yesterday doesn't it? This was the first Apple product I ever owned, although I had used the IIe that a friend owned. What was your first Apple product?

Happy Birthday to Contributing Editor Jeff Campbell!

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Thoughts Site Updates" @ 05:26 AM

It's been said that no great leader can do their job without a great right-hand man, and I happen to have one of the best a guy could ask for. On a daily basis, Jeff churns out half of the Apple news you see posted on your screen and helps keep the flow going when I can't contribute, taking on the work of the two of us. Right now Apple Thoughts is a two-man operation and I can't think of another person I'd rather rely on to be the second half than Jeff.

Happy Birthday, Jeff, and thanks for everything you've done to bring Apple Thoughts to where it is today!

If you'd like to show some love (and I'd really like it if you would), grab something nice for Jeff from his Amazon Wishlist. I'm sure he'll appreciate it!
