"First revealed in January at CES, Griffin and Crayola are now shipping their volume-limiting, kid-friendly MyPhones ($25) and MyPhones Earbuds ($15)."

Very cute and definitely kid friendly. Check out the article for pictures of the earbuds, very clever. Available now on the Griffin site.

V-MODA Vibrato Headphones Reviewed: They're Worth It

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 07:30 AM

If you've ever shopped for headphones, you've likely come across V-MODA. They make a variety of headphones in different price segments, but I've never reviewed any of them until now. I was offered the chance to review the V-MODA Vibrato headphones ($129.99 USD from Amazon), and since I'd heard good things about V-MODA headphones, I said yes. I'm glad I did, though that conclusion took some time to get to. Confused? Keep reading. Read more...

Zipbuds to Avoid Tangled Earbuds

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 12:30 PM

http://www.gearlog.com/2010/12/zipb...davis+(Gearlog)

"Everyone's been there: you pull out your phone or your media player, and then you pull your headphones or earbuds from your pocket or bag only to find the cables are all tangled and knotted in a way that shouldn't physically be possible. With the tangle-resistant Zipbuds by DGA, you can finally get a pair of earbuds that won't get tangled the instant you put them back in your bag."

Interesting concept, using a zipper to join the two sides of your earbuds to prevent the tangled mess that usually happens when you stuff your earbuds in your pocket or bag. I think I'll wait until they come out with the version that has the built-in mic. If you don't care about having a mic then you can pick these up at the Zipbuds store for $39.95 USD.

Replacement Ear Buds For 3rd Generation iPod Shuffles

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPods" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/apple-will...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"Apple's perverse obsession with miniaturizing the iPod Shuffle doesn't seem likely to stop until they bring it down to the size of a nanoangstrom, but one of the biggest drawbacks of making a music player smaller than the controls needed to use it is that the user interface needs to be offloaded to a peripheral: in the third generation iPod Shuffle's case, the stock ear buds."

It appears they have run into some problems, as Apple has started a replacement program for the ear buds that stop working, free of charge, for up to two years from date of purchase. These were made during the period from February 2009 to February 2010.

Sony Debuts New Earphones for iPod/iPhone

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/03/29/four...sets-from-sony/

"Sony has introduced four new sets of earphones designed for the iPod/iPhone: Three earbud and one over-the-ear style."

I'm always looking for a good set of earphones or earbuds. This one, available now, is the model MDR-EX38iP, and sells for $39.95 USD. The other ones range in price all the way up to $99.99 USD, possibly higher since one has no price listing, and will be released in May of this year.

Exercise, Just Don't Sweat

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPods" @ 10:00 AM

"Here's an attack on Apple not likely to have Steve Jobs in a flop sweat: In a class-action lawsuit filed Thursday, a Manhattan Beach, Calif., man claims that his iPod shuffle is defective because while working out, his perspiration traveled down the earphone cord, shutting it down."

He also states employees at the Apple Store where he purchased the iPod Shuffle told him it was "ok to exercise just don't sweat." Seems reasonable right? Can't wait to see what the judge says about this one.

Shocking News From Apple

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Articles & Resources" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.pcworld.com/article/1652..._shock_you.html

"Everyone loves shocking Apple news, and today, we have it -- admittedly, not in the sense you might be thinking. You know those white earbuds everyone and their mother wears these days? The ones that let you rock out with your... uh, iPod out? Apple now says they could shock you. Literally."

I guess there was enough complaining that they actually had to issue a support article on this at Apple. I've had other earbuds shock me, mostly when I've been in dry, low humidity environments, which seems to be the case here. Static electricity can build up for a variety of reasons and give you a mild shock. I guess when its in your ear it sure seems more than mild thus the support article. So if you are concerned, they have several suggestions such as wearing more natural fibers or my personal favorite of spraying anti-static spray in the air prior to using your ipod. I'm sure your fellow commuters will love that one. You could also avoid wearing your earbuds if you are in an environment prone to static electricity, or at least touch some ungrounded metal before putting them in your ears, but that would be too easy I guess.

Oh, and never ever use the top step on your ladder, especially when wearing earbuds that shock you!
