C64 Back in iTunes

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 10:00 AM

http://apple-investor.com/blog/2009...-app-store.html

"The C64 emulator that was pulled from the App Store by Apple for leaving a BASIC interpreter intact has now returned, though we presume it's minus the Apple-offending code."

It is back and for $4.99 USD you get several games to play on it, such as Dragons Den, Le Mans, International Basketball and several more. You can play in portrait or landscape mode and they expect to have in-app purchases available by December.

Commodore 64 Emulator Almost Available

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...for_iphone.html

"A previously rejected iPhone title offering emulated play of Commodore 64 titles has been approved after the developer made changes to align it with Apple's SDK. It allows the iPhone to act as a system that was what was once Apple's staunch competitor."

This brings back memories, since I used to have a Commodore 64. I couldn't afford an Apple at the time, and besides, I was more interested in the cool games the C64 had available. The emulator is not yet available, due to another issue with the Basic program, so they have fixed it and re-submitted it for approval. When it is available, it will also come with the games Dragons Den, Le Mans, Jupiter Lander, Arctic Shipwreck and Jack Attack.

Old Mac Emulator For Your iPhone

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 02:00 PM

"The mini vMac emulator was originally an OS X app which has been ported to the iPhone by Named Fork. This app emulates the Mac Plus hardware but you will need to provide your own OS. With Mini vMac installed and your Mac OS disk image installed, you will effectively have a proper Mac Plus at your disposal ready to be loaded up with classic apps and games."

When I was growing up, I definitely wanted a Mac more than anything else. My parents couldn't afford it, though, so I had a Commodore Vic 20, then a Commodore 64, then my first Wintel machine came along in 1992 or so. I guess if I really wanted to time travel, I could jailbreak my phone and install this bad boy, though! The hangup, of course, is that you need to have a copy of the OS from way back when, and you need to jailbreak your phone, but if you're a classical Mac type guy, this is definitely a fun thing to have even if it's only to show off to friends!
