Skitch for the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:10 PM

"Evernote announced the immediate availability of Skitch for the iPad on Thursday. Like the version for the Mac, Skitch for the iPad lets users edit screenshots, draw on images, add comments and notes, and share images online."

This is a great little program, and now you can use it on the iPad. According to Evernote, it won't be long until there is an iPhone version. And for all this goodness it costs you nothing. It's free.

Evernote Peek: The First Smart Cover Learning App

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 10:15 AM

http://blog.evernote.com/2011/06/08...mart-cover-app/

"Several months ago, Phil and I were sitting in a plane playing around with the just-released iPad 2. Of all its features, the thing that floored us was the ingenious Smart Cover. It didn't seem like an accessory so much as an extension of the device. As we sat there opening and closing the cover, a question struck us: could we use the cover to control an app that would make Evernote even more useful Turns out, the answer is yes. We give you Evernote Peek, the world's first Smart Cover app. Available now."

Here's one thing I've learned over the years: if you have a hardware feature that developers can tap into, they will - and they'll do creative things you never guessed they could. This is a perfect example of that - and I think it's brilliant. It's a whole new class of application that came about simply from Apple coming up with a feature that turns the iPad on when the Smart Cover is lifted.

Evernote Update Brings More Versatility

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:00 AM

"Evernote today launched a redesigned version of its iPhone software, adding new views and features that further help to organize thoughts on the go."

I love Evernote, and use it at least once a day. The new version has improved tagging features, and also has changed the interface for adding notes. Now it shows a split screen so you see what you are saving in the top half, and the bottom half gives you options to add images, audio, tags and location specifics. Even with my usage I have yet to bump up against the data limit (60 MB) on the free version, so I don't feel the need yet to purchase the premium plan for $5.00 USD per month, or $45.00 USD per year. Great app that is free in the Mac App store or via iTunes for your mobile version, and one that is also universal.

Alternatives to Delicious? There are a Few...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/156...l?lsrc=rss_main

"The bad news recently arrived that Yahoo, the struggling search/media/something-or-other Internet giant, let go about 700 staff members. The company is also shuttering a handful of products-Delicious, a popular online bookmarking service used widely in Mac and iOS apps, was rumored to be on the "sunset" list, but Yahoo changed its mind. Still, with the future of Delicious in the air, social bookmarkers may feel like Yahoo is leaving your treasure trove of links hanging in the cloud."

This article offers several options, the most notable in my opinion are Xmarks, Evernote and Springpad. At least those are the ones that I use, when I use something other than my own bookmarks folders to keep things that I might want to refer to later. But I rarely use them, instead opting for saving my own bookmarks and syncing to MobileMe. I stick mostly to Safari, using Chrome when I want to watch something on YouTube or anywhere else that Flash is required. I just don't see the end of Delicious as the end of the world, what are your thoughts?

Evernote Adds Printer Service

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 07:00 AM

http://mashable.com/2010/02/23/ever...able+(Mashable)

"Social note-taking service Evernote may be available on the desktop and six different mobile platforms including the iPhone, but now it can boast its presence on a unique piece of hardware: your printer."

Evernote is a very slick program, for your desktop and iPhone. And as of Tuesday this week you can use Lexmark's SmartSolution Interact, Prestige and Platinum printers to automatically send and store scans in your Evernote account. Seems like a pretty smart addition for a printer/scanner that already comes with several apps such as Google Calendar and MSNBC Headlines. This wouldn't necessarily convince me to buy the printer if it didn't have the qualities in the printing and scanning that I needed however. Would it convince you?

What is Your Note Taking App of Choice?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 09:00 AM

http://justanotheriphoneblog.com/wo...ne+Life+-+News)

"The JAiB Brain Trust met last Tuesday at the offices of Googlius Male to discuss the recent rise of note-taking applications on the iPhone platform. Unfortunately, no consensus was reached, as each team member insisted on naming a different note-taking application as their favorite."

Good choices in this group, including Simplenote and Evernote, both of which I've used. I continue to use Evernote for clippings and receipts, things like that, but for most of my note taking I just use the iPhone Notes app that came with the iPhone. I find, for me, that it does everything I need it to do. I have tried various grocery list apps, note taking apps and to do apps (I do continue to use 2Do for this type of note taking to keep me on track), but for the most part, Notes on the iPhone does it for me. What do you use?
