Microsoft Exchange Problem is a Big Deal

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 04:20 PM

"I'm going to be honest, I really could care less about Apple's current antenna/signal reporting woes right now. Businesses and users who use their iPhone with a Microsoft Exchange server are facing a much bigger issue that, by and large, is not being covered."

I haven't seen that many stories on this Exchange issue (here is one), and it sounds like it is/was a big problem, mostly because the companies couldn't do the fix system-wide. The update to fix the problem has to be done individually, and that isn't as easy as it sounds per the author of this story.

iOS 4 Exchange Server Fix

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/30/...exchange-issue/

"It hasn't gotten quite the attention of the iPhone 4's antenna problems or its proximity sensor troubles, but iOS 4 has caused some heartbreak for corporate users who connect to Exchange servers -- checking mail or syncing contact and calendars can stall out interminably, with no option but to restart and try again."

According to Apple, "immediately after updating to iOS 4, some users may notice that Exchange ActiveSync Mail, Contacts or Calendars do not sync, or sync very slowly. In addition, some Exchange Server administrators may notice their servers running slowly." The problem is the default timer set for a 30 second timeout, so the update sets the timeout to 240 seconds, which appears to fix this syncing issue for most users.

Don't Have the Cash for an iPad? Here is an Option...

"If you reeeeally want an iPad but don't want to scrap together $499 for the entry-level model, then the iPodMeister service has an interesting solution for you - swap 600 CDs for Steve Jobs's newest product."

Interesting solution to solve a problem, if you have enough CDs to exchange. You can get more info from the iPodMeister website.

Gomadic, For ALL of Your Charging Needs

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Articles & Resources" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.gomadic.com/

The title of this really rings true, as this device works for ALL of my charging needs. The company, Gomadic, makes charging adapters but they do it with a twist. Instead of making a different cable for each device, they use what they call "Tip Exchange" so that you only have to buy one cable and the initial charging tip. Once you accumulate devices, instead of buying all new cables, just buy the tip you need and you are good to go. The cables are made by Gomadic and have a lifetime warranty on them (For the first thirty days after your purchase we replace or refund all Gomadic products no questions asked. After the thirty-day grace period has expired, we ask our customers to provide a brief explanation of the problem and if there is indeed some product defect, we're happy to replace any Gomadic product for as long as you own it.) as well as a high output of 1000mAh. On top of that, according to Gomadic, they use "advanced internal circuitry to protect from power surges, overcharging and short-circuiting." These chargers are also built to work anywhere in the world with their international adapter kit.
