Apple TV Gets Genius Recommendations

"A silent update to the backend has introduced Genius recommendations for movies and TV shows to the Apple TV."

You don't have to do much, as Apple updated their own servers to provide this to you. Sometimes its nice to get suggestions when you don't know what to watch isn't it?

Mobile iTunes Now Has Genius Recommendations

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 08:50 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2011/02/...ecommendations/

"Apple's mobile version of the iTunes Store has recently received Genius recommendations. Both the iPhone and iPad versions of the iTunes Store now allow users to view recommendations."

I seldom use Genius recommendations, although I have found some gems in the past by using it. It just isn't something I really think about doing when I go to iTunes, so perhaps I'm not using it to it's potential. Now that it is on the mobile versions maybe I'll use it more. How about you, does the Genius enhance your usage or is it something that you don't even bother using?

A Couple of Changes for the App Store

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 11:20 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/08/...app-genius-tab/

"If you happen to rely on Apple's Genius feature for your app recommendations, there's good news, as it has just hit the iPad."

There are a couple of changes in the App Store. For the iPad, you get the Genius tab at the bottom of the screen. And for the App Store in general they have added a "Try Before You Buy" section, composed of the free versions of various apps available. I like both of the changes, but especially the Genius tab addition. It's pretty hard to keep up on all the apps that come out for the various devices, so having some recommendations based on prior purchases seems pretty handy.

Apple "Genius" in Unemployment Line

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/apple-fire...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"Apple's shown some commitment to Haitian Earthquake Relief Efforts by making it easy for iTunes users to donate to the Red Cross, but according to one Genius Bar employee, this commitment doesn't extend to letting its employees rush off to Santiagio to help facilitate relief efforts: he was fired for his troubles."

So now he ends up in the unemployment line. I can't fault Apple either, if he didn't follow the polices then they are within their rights to terminate. And unless he had it pre-arranged that he could use volunteer work as an excuse for not showing up then I don't know many companies that would actually allow this type of excuse to fly.

Genius Now Suggesting TV and Movies

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...for_videos.html

"Apple this week flicked the switch on its iTunes Genius recommendation engine for movies and TV shows, a feature it originally planned to introduce alongside the release of iTunes 8.1 earlier this month."

The Genius sidebar was introduced with iTunes 8.0, and was limited to suggesting music. Now they have opened it up to TV shows and movies. For example, if you select a TV show in your iTunes library, the Genius will suggest additional episodes from that show, other seasons (if there are any) and up to 10 recommendations for similar shows. Reminds me of what Netflix does with their site, suggesting movies once you have added something to your que.
