Free WiFi When You Fly Certain Airlines, Sort Of...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 08:00 AM

"Uh oh, our Jason Chen is going to be pissed when he sees this news. In-flight Wi-Fi's set to get even slower, now that Gogo is giving away free Facebook access on seven of the major airlines.

The airlines are Virgin America, United and American Airlines, Delta, AirTran, US Airways and Alaska Airlines, and through the month of February they are providing free Facebook access via Gogo. You can always pay for more, with the prices from $4.95 USD to $12.95 USD depending on the length of the flight. According to Gogo, Facebook is their most visited sight thus the tie-in with this promotion. Interesting factoid from Gogo: only 7% to 10% of all passengers on WiFi equipped planes use the WiFi service, so they certainly have room for expansion of their customer base. Do you use the WiFi when on flights?

"That's right, kiddies. Every year it's the most magical time of the year when all the good little boys and girls who have to travel during the holidays are rewarded with wide open WiFi, free of charge, from those jolly elves in Mountain View."

Free Wi-Fi from Google Chrome, from November 20th through January 2nd, 2011, but not only with Virgin America. This time they have added AirTran and Delta to the free Wi-Fi deal, via Gogo Inflight WiFi. You can find out more info at the Google blog, or go right to the source and read the details at the Free WiFi site.

"Now here's a great deal if you're traveling: Until July 10, 2010, you can use the promo code SAVE25 to get 25% off your GoGo Internet in-flight Wi-Fi session."

All you have to do is look for the "gogoinflight" signal at 10,000 feet, open a browser, and enter promo code SAVE25 on the payment info page to get 25% off your in-flight Internet signal. You can also use code TRYTHIRTYDAY, which will give you $5.00 USD off of a 30-day GoGo pass. GoGo has a variety of pricing options from $4.95 USD for a single flight up to 1.5 hours to $39.95 USD for 30-day pass for unlimited usage on any flight. Not a bad deal if you travel a lot and want to save a few bucks.
