Use Trapster to Find Haunted Houses As Well As Speed Traps

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/now-find-l...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"Halloween, with its legions of black-clad kids running around and darting out into the street, introduces its own variety of driving perils. So in addition to warning other users of speed traps and red-light cameras, Trapster users can now mark two new location types on its map this Halloween: haunted houses and trick-or-treat zones."

And before you think you can play some tricks on your friends and neighbors by marking their houses as "haunted houses," bad information can be removed with enough votes. Of course that will take some time so it still might work as a trick, although it's supposed to be used for good not evil folks!

Scoopertino Has Your Halloween Costume

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Classic Apple" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/10/28/dres...-for-halloween/

"The guys at Scoopertino have the exclusive details on Apple's "next big product launch." According to them, "Apple is making a multimillion-dollar bet" that you'll want it, too. Apple is set to release their first ever clothing line, dubbed "iWear," which lets you dress exactly like Steve Jobs. The iWear line will consist of a mock black turtleneck, jeans, gray New Balance 991 sneakers, and a pair of non-prescription Steve Jobs-style glasses. Apple will push the new iWear clothing line with the ad campaign slogan: 'Be Like Steve.'"

Head on over to the Scoopertino site for the whole story, it's pretty funny I must say and the guys at the Mac satire news site have outdone themselves this time.

Sound Effects for Halloween, And a Free Game Via iTunes

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.appletell.com/apple/comm...etell+Appletell

"Halloween is upon us once again, affording men the opportunity to dress up like police officers, vampires and pirates, and affording the women the opportunity to dress up like sexy police officers, sexy vampires and sexy pirates. It also affords app developers the chance to release their new Halloween apps, or at least modify them with a Halloween theme."

It's never too early to get ready for Halloween is it? Also, from today until October 8th, you can get a copy of the game Evil Quiz v1.2 for free [link].

Best iPhone Costume Ever?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 08:00 AM

http://macenstein.com/default/2009/...iropractic-app/

"I made an iPhone costume last year which I thought was pretty sweet (basically a sandwich board type thing with giant glossy icons printed out), but apparently it sucked and I looked like a dork, because these guys went all out and really made a kick-ass iPhone costume to die for... and yet they too look like dorks."

They do look like dorks but it isn't because of the costumes. One flaw I see is the apparent inability to actually drink a beverage while wearing the costume, unless you have really long arms.

Macworld Pumpkin Carving Contest

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/143...l?lsrc=rss_main

"Enjoy your Macworld editors' attempts at Apple-themed pumpkin carving. Think you can do better? You're probably right! Submit photos of your own creations to letters@macworld.com."

This one was done by Jason Snell, and there are many more examples from the rest of the staff. No prize other than possibly getting your pumpkin photo in the magazine, but they have thrown down the "can you do better" gauntlet, so are you up for it?

Get Ready For Halloween

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.appletell.com/apple/comm...fright-factory/

"Just in time for the haunting season comes this app that offers up plenty of scares. It has creepy sound effects, an instant haunted house, and optical illusions. With The Fright Factory, it is almost like having three apps in one."

For $0.99 USD (now free and there is an ipod touch version), its pretty good entertainment, especially since Halloween is just around the corner. To get full functionality though, you will need to use it on an iPhone since it uses the mic in the iPhone to activate some of the tricky features, ie playing a sound when it hears noise nearby.
