NBC Politics Launches iPad App

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 04:00 AM

"NBC Politics launched a new iPad and iPhone app Thursday that lets users keep tabs on the latest news coming out of the 2012 race to the White House."

Like any of these political apps, I tend to be cautious about believing everything in them but I'll add this one to the group I have on my iPad. The coolest thing about this app is the simulator that will come in handy this fall. Besides being universal and free and available now that is.

Keep in the Political Know With Political GPS

"Political GPS is, hands down, the best way to leverage your iPhone or iPod Touch as a tool for political activism."

I like this app, and it really does a great job in getting information about all that is going on in Washington D.C. You can find voting records, texts of bills (current and past), contact information for all the Representatives and Senators as well as a great search function. If you are at all interested in politics and like to stay connected with your "employees" in the Capital, this is a good way to do it. This app has quite a bit of functionality for only $1.99 USD.

Keep Up With Congress!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 08:00 AM

"You cast your ballot in November, but your job as a citizen isn't finished. Now that 111th Congress is in session, it's the responsibility of every American to keep tabs on their elected officials - and since this is the 21st Century, why not use your smartphone to do it?"

Simple app on the surface, but seems to be pretty effective in what it says it will do. Input your email, zip code and state and it gives you a list of your Senators and Representatives, along with contact information for them and how they have been voting. It even gives you the option to input your stance on issues and see how it compares to those in office. If you are interested at all in politics, this seems like an app that might be useful, especially since it makes it so easy to shoot off an email to your Senator or Representative, or all of them at once. Best of all it is free!

Obama Staffers Hate View From Windows

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Talk" @ 08:00 AM

"The Obama team has long been known for using Apple equipment. President Obama himself uses a Mac laptop, as does his media team, which according to the Washington Post is now facing the daunting prospect of updating the West Wing to modern equipment and doing so while complying with government regulations. The Post article quipped that "if the Obama campaign represented a sleek, new iPhone kind of future, the first day of the Obama administration looked more like the rotary-dial past.""

Ya gotta feel for the Obama guys, but at the same time, did they expect to just walk into the White House, plug in their MacBooks and get to work? I imagine this administration will be great for getting the ancient tech used in the White House up to 2008 standards (think about it; Windows 2000 and Windows XP? And if they're still running 2000, do you really think they're running it on new machines anyway? I doubt it). It's tough being a Mac user in the Windows world sometimes.
