"The final NASA space shuttle mission is STS-135. GoSoftWorks is providing a free app so space enthusiasts can view when the space shuttle Atlantis goes overhead in their local skies, and where it is located anytime in its orbit."

The free app is call GoAtlantis (they also have one called GoSatWatch [affiliate link] for $9.99 that allows you to track satellites in orbit), and you can use it to track the last shuttle mission, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 8th at 11:36 am EDT with the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis.

The iPhone in Space

"The space shuttle Atlantis' final mission into space on July 8, 2011 will also mark a first. Specifically, the first time an iPhone has entered outer space. Two in fact, meant to carry out specially-designed experiments."

SpaceLab for iOS is the app the iPhones are going to be running, as they enter space aboard the space shuttle Atlantis. This is the last mission for the space shuttle fleet and the iPhones will be testing cameras, gyroscopes and other hardware when the shuttle docks at the International Space Station. Yes, there is a version for the rest of us [affiliate link], priced at $0.99 USD.

NASA App for the iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 09:00 AM

"Although I don't really see this being a very useful app on my iPhone, and to most others, I am sure there are some out there who could get a lot of use out of NASA's new iPhone app. It was developed by the New Media Team at NASA Ames Research Center and is full of features."

I have this app and it is a nice interface for what is going on at NASA. It covers all the current missions from Shuttle to the new Aries I-X Next Generation Rocket. They also include updates from Twitter. Some similar apps that just do the twitter feeds are available also, but they don't include the extras and this one is free. The only thing I wished it had was a calendar or section for future launches. I'll have to suggest that to them.
