Apple Value Greater Than Microsoft and Intel Combined

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 03:00 PM

http://macdailynews.com/2011/06/03/...intel-combined/

"At market close today, Microsoft (MSFT) had a market value of $201.59 billion. The market value of Intel (INTC) stands at $115.21 billion."

This was on Friday, and while it is quite a large value for either one, Apple did a bit better. At close of business Friday Apple's value was, wait for it, $317.60 billion, greater than the sum of Microsoft and Intel combined. Going into WWDC tomorrow that is quite a tasty bit of news that I'm sure will be mentioned. But before Apple gets too full of themselves, they best take heed to this Bill Gates quote about Steve Jobs from about 13 years ago: 'What I can't figure out is why he is even trying to be the CEO of Apple? He knows he can't win.'

Indeed.

Apple is a Global Champion

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 09:00 AM

"It is no secret that the worldwide economy isn't in the best of shape. While I'm sure we could argue for days on end what got us all into this mess (I, for one, blame someone other than myself) there are some bright spots."

According to a list by A.T. Kearney, Apple is a global champion. The company compiled a list based on the largest 2,500 companies worldwide from 2004 to 2008, measuring their sales and value growth, to come up with the rankings. Based on their criteria, the top five companies in order are Nintendo, Google, Apple, Doosan Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Laptop Hunters Ad Hurting Apple? Kind of...

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Laptops" @ 11:00 AM

"Microsoft's "Laptop Hunters" ad campaign focuses on the price difference between Windows PCs and expensive Apple Macs. The commercials have raised consumers' perception of Microsoft's "value" -- and have hurt Apple -- according to YouGov BrandIndex, a research service."

Something struck me as odd, and reading the comments on the post, I found it:

"Yeah, good point, Dan, the wild swings in the graph from one extreme to the other, would tend to make this graph somewhat questionable. Honestly, does perception of value change THAT much over such a short period of time? Can we see other comparative graphs of other companies? Can they correlate it to anything?"

That is indeed an interesting question because the run of the ads doesn't seem to correlate with the "dip" in value perception. I'd be interested to see other value perception charts as well. I'm not saying the interpretation of the data is wrong, I'm just not sure if that interpretation can be made with the amount of data given.
