Wal-Mart Updates iPhone App and Releases New iPad App

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 10:00 AM

http://macdailynews.com/2011/11/09/...+(MacDailyNews)

"'Wal-Mart Stores Inc shoppers can now research the trove of product data the world's largest retailer gathers, through a new iPad app and updated app for Apple Inc's iPhone,' Jessica Wohl reports for Reuters."

You can pickup the Walmart app for iPad now, or even get their updated iPhone app now, both free in iTunes. Say what you will about Wal-Mart but they really do embrace technology to make shopping there easier, such as being able to speak your list into your iPhone 4S and have it show up on their app as well as being able to see the availability for various items you may need/want.

Wal-Mart Bonus if You Buy iPhone 4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 PM

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...ech_LEFTTopNews

"On Monday, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. began giving consumers a $50 gift card when they purchased an iPhone 4, part of a "last-minute gifts" promotion. The world's biggest retailer sells the latest version of the iPhone for $197 -two dollars less than Apple and AT&T Inc. do-with a two-year contract."

Basically this drops it down to the same price point Sam's Club is selling the iPhone 4, $147.00 USD. I guess they want to make sure you aren't penalized for not having a Sam's Club in your area.

Wal-Mart, Disney and VUDU Give You Free Digital Copy of Toy Story 3

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 02:10 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/02/...streaming-copy/

"Wal-mart is showing how it might make use of VUDU after purchasing the 1080p movie streaming house earlier this year, now that the two have teamed up with Disney to throw in a free digital copy of Toy Story 3 with each one purchased at the store on DVD or Blu-ray."

So as of yesterday, when you purchased the movie you got a download code to use on VUDU. Wal-Mart and VUDU say this is the future of content, but I wish they would head in another direction. I would actually prefer a digital copy that I could place on my portable device, much like I received when I purchased Blue Harvest, the Star Wars version of Family Guy. What are your thoughts, digital copy or streaming version via an online service?

Everyone is Selling the iPad!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 09:04 AM

http://images.apple.com/v2010100115.../14ipadatt.html

"AT&T* and Apple® today announced that all three iPadTM Wi-Fi + 3G models will be available at more than 2,200 AT&T Stores starting Thursday, October 28. AT&T will offer customers 3G pre-paid data plans for iPad, complete with Apple's easy on-device activation and management. All iPad data plans are available without a term contract and include unlimited access to AT&T's 23,000+ domestic Wi-Fi Hot Spots."

Target is selling the iPad now, while Wal-Mart is set to begin selling the iPad starting October 15th. Sam's Club will also be selling it in the near future, so I guess it was just logical that AT&T get in the mix. But that is not all. Verizon is also set to begin selling the Wi-Fi version of the iPad at the end of October, with an optional bundle that includes the MiFi Hotspot for an extra $130.00 USD. Since you can't use the iPad 3G on the Verizon network, this is a good option (I do the same thing with my Wi-Fi only iPad) and it turns out the price difference is what you would pay for a 3G version of an iPad.

iPad at Wal-Mart on October 15th

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/30013/walmar...e+Intelligence)

"We already know the iPad is showing up at some Walmart stores across the nation, and today Walmart officially announced they will be carrying the iPad. Sales begin at hundreds of Walmart's retail locations in the United States this Friday, October 15."

Nothing says mainstream like Wal-Mart, and as the photo above shows, iPad is joining other Apple products to go on sale at the Wal-Mart on October 15th. Is this a clearing of product by Apple in preparation of new models?

iPhone 4 Early? Possibly, But at Wal-Mart it's Reality

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 12:00 PM

http://9to5mac.com/iphone_4_heaven_...e+Intelligence)

"Apple is delivering those iPhone 4's a day early, the company is confirming in emails to some customers."

Interesting. A day early. Isn't that the same day the press event in New York is being held for the new Droid? I'm sure coincidence is all this is, but even earlier is the appearance of the iPhone 4 at an undisclosed Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart Offers Shopping Portal

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Articles & Resources" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.businessinsider.com/wal-...roviders-2009-8

"Walmart is taking on Amazon with a new shopping portal, which includes about 1 million items from other vendors."

Wal-Mart currently attracts 33 million unique visitors per month, compared to Amazon's 67 million, so the market is there. Thus they have opened a portal that will include eBags, Pro Team and CSN stores. It will be interesting to see if Wal-Mart takes a chunk out of the Amazon sales number. What will it take to get you to switch?

Wal-Mart Sets Prices & Release Date For iPhone 3G

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 07:33 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/17/...t-more-than-99/

The memo from which the clips above were taken was originally posted on Engadget this morning. Most interesting tidbits? The launch of the pilot (to make sure everything's in working order) and the national release date and pricing. What I find most interesting is the release date itself. December 28th? I wonder if Apple told them they didn't want to be competing for iPhone sales this holiday season? You can read the whole memo at Engadget.

Rumor: Wal-Mart May Sell $99 4GB iPhone 3G

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008...one-at-walmart/

"We just got a tip that in addition to the iPhone 3G actually making its way to Walmart, as we exclusively told you, there will be a 4GB model priced at $99 with a 2-year agreement. We're not putting our stamp of approval behind this one just yet as the tipster isn't listed in our BGR's Guide to respected Ninjas handbook, but it does make you think, doesn't it?"

As Executive Editor, I'm faced with decisions like this often, particularly with regards to Apple. Do I run with the story / rumor I have no confidence in just because everyone else is? Or do I hold back and just wait? The truth is, I don't like rumors. Mac Rumors tend to be off the wall and ridiculous and I choose to ignore them as often as possible, but this one has so many people rushing to put it out there, I felt I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention it. Plus, it's a credible source (BGR is pretty good when it comes to rumors and such) so take this one for what it's worth. Me? I have no belief whatsoever that this rumor is true, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
