Macworld Expo Names Best of Show Winners

Posted by Joe Johaneman in "Apple Talk" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/157...xpo2011bos.html

"Macworld Expo is a great way to see products for the Mac and iOS devices. But of the thousands of products on display, a select few stand out. These products are recognized with our Best of Show awards."

There are some great products here (though I'm kind scratching my head at the Awind McTivia. Maybe someone can explain the appeal?) Anyway, I highly recommend you click through to see the rest of the great products there. As a Busycal user, I'm definitely going to grab BusyMac BusyToDo. Is there anything in the list that you're planning on buying?

AT&T Film Awards Show App

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 09:00 AM

"AT&T* today announced the launch of its Film Awards Interactive App on the App Store. The free app lets users read bios, watch previews and vote for their favorite award-nominated films and stars right on their iPhone or AT&T U-verseSM TV screen."

Nice app if you are into awards shows, giving you behind the scenes tours, star photos and more. And it is free

How Many "Best Of" Lists Are There?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 11:00 AM

http://brainstormtech.blogs.fortune...-of-the-decade/

"Steve Jobs and Apple appeared in an extraordinary number of 2009's "Best of" lists. Our favorite: 'There's an app for that,' the Yale Book of Quotations' No. 3 quote of the 2009, right before Rep. Joe Wilson's 'You lie' and after Captain Sully Sullenberger's 'We're going to be in the Hudson.'"

I just found this interesting from the aspect of not realizing there were so many lists you could be ranked in! It seems that this will just lead to "Best Of" lists becoming more and more irrelevant unless it is for something that is a bit more objective than "Top Ten Quotes of 2009." Unless it is something you can quantify, hard for me to put much stock in some of these lists. And maybe that is more to the point, that they aren't to be taken serious just generate some thought and discussion. What are your thoughts?

MacWorld Editors' Choice Awards

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/144...l_mwnws_h_crawl

"Selecting the year's best products is never easy. 2009 was no exception. We saw major upgrades to Apple's hardware lines and excellent new products from third-party vendors. But after weeks of debate, we winnowed our list down to the following 10-the winners of this year's Editors' Choice Awards for hardware."

There were some products that you would expect on a Macworld list, such as the iPhone 3GS and the iPod Touch, but they also threw in a couple of curve balls, at least for me. Nice broad list that covers a variety of categories. Just in time for Christmas.

iPhone Highest Ranked Smartphone in JD Power Satisfaction Survey

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/JD-Power-iphone

"JD Power and Associates released the results of their annual Consumer Smartphone Survey with the iPhone running the table in five of the six categories. The iPhone's battery was the only category that it didn't lead/get a perfect score. iPhone also won in the business category earlier this year."

According to the survey results, Apple has high score of 791, followed by LG at 772 and Samsung at 759. The report says that "Apple ranks highest among smartphone manufacturers with a score of 791, performing particularly well in ease of operation, operating system, features and physical design." Interesting to note that in the traditional handset category, LG had the highest ranking with 733, followed by Sony Ericsson with 712. Apple also won a similar award from JD Power in Canada in 2008, but that appears to include traditional handsets.
