Apple Has Pretty Good Ranking per ComScore

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:00 AM

"ComScore has released its monthly analysis of U.S. web activity at the top online properties for November 2011 based on data from the comScore Media Metrix service."

And Apple was right up there when it comes to online retailers, as well as those brick and mortar stores with an online presence. Apple beat out Wal-Mart, Sears, Target and Best Buy to name but a few.

Apple Hits Number 2 in US for Smartphone Makers

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 AM

"According to comScore (http://www.comscore.com), a "group that measures the digital world," 74.6 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in April 2011, up 13% from the three-month period ending in January 2011."

This puts Apple in the number two spot for smartphone makers in the US behind Samsung, who had 24.5% of the subscribers. Google Android is still the top operating system, however, with 36.4% of US smartphone subscribers. This is up 5.2% from the previous comScore that ended in January of 2011. Apple is also number two in the operating system rankings with 26% of the market. RIM comes in third with 25.7%, not far behind Apple. The top three are followed up by Microsoft at 6.7% and Palm with 2.6%.

comScore Data Shows Android Gaining on Apple

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:30 AM

"comScore, Inc., a leader in measuring the digital world, today released data from the comScore MobiLens service, reporting key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending October 2010. The report ranked the leading mobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and smartphone operating system (OS) platforms in the U.S. according to their share of current mobile subscribers ages 13 and older, and reviewed the most popular activities and content accessed via the subscriber's primary mobile phone."

You can see from the chart above that Google is almost to Apple, jumping up 6.5% over the months from July 2010 to October 2010. We've had several disagreements as to the validity of such scoring, but I still think it's inevitable due to the sheer number of Android phones, not to mention multiple carriers, in the marketplace. If the Verizon iPhone rumor is true though, I think you will see these figures change, in Apple's favor.

iPhone is the Standard for Touchscreens

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.electronista.com/article...tion.jumps.159/

"The iPhone now represents almost exactly one third of all touchscreen phones in the US, new comScore info says. Of all touch phones in the country, 32.9 percent are iPhones while all others trail significantly behind."

You can see from the list above from Comscore that the closest competitor has about 9% of the market. To state the obvious, the iPhone is dominating. There isn't much competition for the iPhone but I hear there may be soon. What are your thoughts on the future of touchscreen dominance?
