Apple Lease With MTA Under Review

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 02:00 AM

http://9to5mac.com/2011/12/01/state...away-the-store/

"Following yesterday's report from the New York Post detailing Apple's lease with the MTA for their new Grand Central retail store, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli plans on looking into the deal and ensuring 'MTA hasn't given away the store'."

Well, charging $60 per square foot when the going rate is $200 per square foot would lead one to believe they are getting one heckuva deal wouldn't it? However apparently that is only for the first year and over the life of the least the average is $180 per square foot, so I guess it isn't too far off, but in light of questionable practices by the MTA, they are going ahead with the investigation into the lease.

Grand Central Terminal to Get Apple Store

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/confirmed-...ntral-terminal/

"Apple will be building a massive store in New York's Grand Central Terminal, we have independently confirmed. The store will open in the fall, likely early September - and it will be Apple's largest retail space in the world."

And it shall be named Apple Store Grand Central, according to one of those unnamed sources you frequently hear about. This year is the 10th anniversary of the retail operations at Apple so it seems logical they would want to make an impact. This store is supposed to be the largest store yet, surpassing the Covent Garden Store in London. That store has 16,732 square feet open to the public. They certainly will have the foot traffic since the terminal has over 700,000 visitors per day.

Metro-North Commuter Railroad App Released

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.insidetransit.com/statio...tops-iphone-app

"StationStops first launched their iPhone app last October in the iPhone App Store. The app costs $1.99 and is a simple timetable for the Metro North Railroad in NYC. You can easily find out what time the next train will be arriving at your station. It's an easy way to maximize your time at a location because you will know exactly what the train schedule is for that station and you can adjust accordingly. The app also displays the fares for the specific train."

This has been out since October of 2008, but this is the first I've heard of it. I don't live in New York City, but if you do and you ride Metro North, this may be an app you could use. It keeps the schedules right on your iPhone/iPod Touch so you can find the next train in and out of Grand Central Station. It also provides, among other information, "Peak and Off-Peak fare information, and indicates weekend trains which only travel on Saturday, as well as arrival and travel times" according to the StationStops website. It's available on iTunes, of course, and sells for $1.99 USD.
