Some Other Options for Flickr Uploading

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

http://arstechnica.com/apple/guides...tm_campaign=rss

"iPhoto '09 comes with built-in support for uploading to Flickr, but that's not the only option for uploading to our favorite photo sharing site. Here, we list out four third-party options for Mac users when it comes to putting their pictures on Flickr, along with their pros and cons."

If you are suffering through some of the annoyances with uploading to Flickr with iPhoto '09, this article gives you some other options. Just in time for all those holiday photos right?

iPhoto '09 Updated to 8.1

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/08/18/appl...-iphoto-to-8-1/

"Along with the many software updates released lately, Apple today released an update for iPhoto. The new version, 8.1, adds several new printing options for the iPhoto print service."

As you can see from the screen shot, the update includes three new book themes, some new holiday greeting cards and the best update in my opinion, the ability to order hardcover books in a larger size (13" x 10"). I've ordered several books via iPhoto and they have all come out great, so I'm looking forward to being able to order a larger style. The update is just over 160 MB in size.

Helpful Tips for Face Recognition in iPhoto '09

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/141...?lsrc=rss_howto

"Thanks to its face-recognition tool, iPhoto '09 can now put names to the faces in your photographs, letting you quickly sift through your library based on content rather than how photos are arranged. But putting this feature to work requires some effort on your part."

If you are like me, I have yet to explore the features of iPhoto '09 although I really need to get with it. This primer is a pretty good basic introduction into the face recognition tool and how to use it. I really like the hide feature for those subjects that you really don't want to look at every time you open up iPhoto. With this article, I really have no excuse now for not exploring iPhoto '09.

iPhoto Updated to 8.0.4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/06/30/ipho...-8-04-released/

"Constant reader Joachim Bean alerted us that the an update to iPhoto '09. Version 8.0.4 is ready and available via Software Update."

From the "iPhoto 8.0.4 Update" page, "This update addresses a rarely encountered issue involving photos imported into a previous version that could affect overall stability, and corrects references to a few points of interest and location names that were labelled incorrectly." Basically this fixes an installation bug found in 8.0.3 as well as some labels that were turning out to be incorrect. This is recommended for all users of iPhoto '09.

Hey Camera Buffs, Apple Offers Up Raw Compatibility Update 2.5

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 02:00 PM

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13580_3-10186568-39.html

"Apple on Monday added support in its software for raw image files from Nikon's top-end SLR, the $8,000, 24.5-megapixel D3X. Apple's Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.5 also adds support for Epson's Epson R-D1x digital rangefinder camera, according to the Apple support page."

This software update requires Mac OS X 10.4.11, Mac OS X 10.5.3 or later. It enables iPhoto '08 and '09 as well as Aperture 2 to interpret raw files on the two cameras. You can find out more about the update direct from the Apple support page.

Use iPhoto to Find Superheroes!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 10:00 AM

http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2009/...real-power.html

"The always wonderful Joy of Tech takes a look at iPhoto's new face recognition feature. We always wondered why a pair of specs and hair parted on the other side was enough to fool even the woman he'd slept with. I also wonder how Lois managed to get face recognition to work properly. My version of iLife '09 is truly useless."

I have yet to find any superheroes in my collection of photos but I thought I better put this out there as another tool for you to use in your search for secret identities. Doesn't sound like the writer from wired is having too much luck with his. Oh well, the comic is certainly funny.
