Hashable Now Available in iTunes

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 10:30 AM

http://techcrunch.com/2010/12/12/ha...ch+(TechCrunch)

"If you've been waiting for an intro to Hashable-the only way up until now that you could get into the semi-private business networking service that keeps tracks of your connections through Twitter and email-you can now invite yourself by downloading Hashable's iPhone app. It just went live on iTunes this weekend."

Up until now you had to go to their website after receiving a code via Twitter, and enter the code or your email to get in on the private beta. Now all you have to do it get the free app from iTunes [link] and start connecting. It's an interesting way to keep track of your connections, and where you connected, and allowing you to search via some hash tag categories (thus the name), but I don't see it making business cards obsolete just yet. There is always that awkward period, where the other person waits while you divert attention from them to your smartphone while you enter their information (almost like you are a merchant ringing up a sale and you need some information from the buyer so you can get the sale finalized) that the simple gesture of exchanging business cards avoids. Nothing to stop you from entering the information later and then disposing of the card I suppose, but on the initial meeting I doubt this would be very useful except in social interactions. But perhaps that is the reason for this app anyway, what are your thoughts?

FourSquare Version 1.6, No Wait, 1.7 Now Available

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 12:00 PM

"Good news for all of you Foursquare addicts, after a couple days of noticed absence, the Foursquare iPhone app is now back on the App Store."

This was regarding version 1.6, which was released into the store and then pulled when it was discovered to have been released too early. So they put it back in after fine tuning it, and now they have updated again, since as of yesterday version 1.7 is now available for free in iTunes.

LinkedIn Version 3.0 for iPhone

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 11:00 AM

http://9to5mac.com/linkedin_3_iphone_ships_30250

"Good news if you're an iPhone-wielding member of ‘Facebook for suits' service, LinkedIn, as the pro-focused social network has introduced version 3.0 of its iPhone application, seemingly borrowing some of the look and feel of the Facebook app for the same platform."

This is a free app, and has several new features with this version. Data exchange via Bluetooth when you are in the same place with one of your contacts, more options for navigating the various features and an expanded search function so you can also search outside of your connections for business contacts. If you use LinkedIn, you can also join their iPhone group here.
