Reeder Comes to OS X

Posted by Joe Johaneman in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 07:30 AM

"Reeder, one of the best RSS readers for iOS devices, has just landed on the Mac. It's still in the draft stage, but it's got all the features that make the mobile version awesome. It pulls your feeds straight from Google Reader, making initial set-up extremely quick and easy. Integration with sharing and bookmarking services also carries over from the iOS version of Reeder: Instapaper, Read It Later, Delicious, and sharing via email are all included, along with several others."

Reeder is my favorite RSS reader for the iPad, and now it's available for OS X. I've been using it all day rather than Google Reader, and I have to say, I love it just as much as the iPad version. It requires a Google Reader account (you currently can't manage feeds using Reeder), but if you already have one, you're good to go. Reeder for OS X is currently in beta and for now, it's free.

Which RSS Reader Do You Like on Your iPad?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 07:00 AM

"NetNewsWire first came out in 2002, and back then, it was the only application of its kind. RSS was just beginning to pick up steam, Google Reader wasn't even conceived of yet, and most people got their news by visiting a series of bookmarks."

Well how times have changed since then. Now there are many ways to get your RSS delivered to your iPad and this article goes over some of the options available to you. I use Reeder most of the time, but I also use the Google app for iPad to go direct to the feeds. I'm not sure which one I like better at this point. What RSS app is your weapon of choice?

Boxee Releases Bleeding-Edge Update

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/03/06/boxe...lu-rss-support/

"My favorite media center software, boxee, has just released a new alpha update for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 users and Apple TV users. This update, which the boxee team classifies as bleeding-edge (which means, if you don't want to deal with any potential bugs, wait for the more stable release scheduled for March 24, 2009) adds the "App Box" -- boxee's version of the App Store, automatic updates, and most excitingly, a new video-optimized RSS reader."

In addition, you can use the new RSS reader to access the Hulu's public RSS feeds directly from Boxee. If you recall, two weeks ago Boxee was forced to remove Hulu from it's service, but the hackers were on top of it and came up with a workaround. That didn't last long though before it was broke, so they fixed it again. And again.

The process for adding content has gotten easier apparently, and if you are interested in loading up this latest version you can head over to Boxee for it. I would love to see this on the Apple TV but I'm just not comfortable hacking mine. I may end up doing it soon though if some quality updates don't come through for it from Apple.
