Macworld Expo Starts Tomorrow

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Talk" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.hardmac.com/news/2011/01...c+(HardMac.com)

"It was not so long ago that the Mac world was buzzing during this period of the year, especially during the two days of the start of the Macworld Expo."

Granted, since Apple has stopped going it lost some of it's luster but it is still an active event attended by many of the faithful. If you are planning on going, here is also an article on some of the "essential" apps you might find handy, and there is even a Macworld specific app to help guide you around the event. And don't forget to check in at the official Macworld Expo site for more information. Anyone going this year?

So How Do I Follow The News at WWDC 2010? Don't Go to Gizmodo

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 01:00 PM

Well, I'll tell you! Just as in years prior, there are several sites that are offering live blogging from the event, which starts on Monday June 7th at 10am Pacific Time, so here are a few:

One notable exception to the usual live bloggers is Gizmodo. It appears the whole iPhone 4G coverage issue that is still ongoing has done one thing for their relationship with Apple, and that is to sever it. According to Gizmodo, they haven't received any answer to their request for passes. They will still offer coverage via other sites apparently but won't be live blogging.

What Do You Think Will Happen at WWDC?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 12:38 PM

http://9to5mac.com/wwdc_2010_flags_...e+Intelligence)

"Apple is putting up its flags and bunting for its annual developers garden party (without a garden) WWDC 2010 at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco next week.Images are already spreading widely across the Internet as avid snappers grab pictures of the signs going up."

It's that time of year again, with Apple holding their annual developers conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco on Monday. Lots of rumors swirling around about this conference too. There is the well reported Verizon getting an iPhone rumor, as well as updates to iPhone OS 4.0. But how about the rumor of upcoming Mac Mini refresh, with some credence to it due to shortages? Or the MacBook Pro updates? Did you hear the one about Sprint getting the iPhone? Anyway, lots of stuff out there, what do you think will be announced at WWDC 2010?

The iPad in Concert

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/ipad_in_conc...e+Intelligence)

"Here's the latest soon to be gigantically viral iPad-related video clip - Chinese pianist Lang Lang walked onstage in San Francisc to perform the encore playing Flight Of The Bumblebee on an iPad.See why the iPad is going to be such a big deal yet? It's like we've always said - success depends upon the apps, so get thinking..."

Crazy stuff, not at all what I use my iPad for, but then again I can't play a regular piano either.

AT&T MicroCell in San Francisco

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/04...rancisco-today/

"If AT&T gets a bad wrap for having poor signal quality in any city, it's San Francisco. Part of this is due to the sudden influx of iPhones in the Silicon Valley that began in 2007, putting an almighty strain on the network; of the roughly 800,000 or so people living in San Francisco, we're estimating that around 10 million of them (or 1,150%) are carrying iPhones. Throw in ridiculous topography and monstrous buildings, and it starts to get tough to properly blanket the entire area in radio waves."

It should get a little easier since this past weekend AT&T started selling their 3G MicroCell in the San Francisco area.

Meet Woz, March 6th in San Francisco

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 01:00 PM

"Steve Wozniak hasn't given up his desire to appear in the spotlight: after hamming it up on "Dancing with the Stars," he's going to show his adorable mug at a Roller Derby event on March 6 in San Francisco."

Besides meeting Woz (possibly I mean) you can watch some Roller Derby. If you haven't done so, you should give it a shot, it is actually quite fun. We go to matches up here in Portland occasionally and they are always entertaining.

What is Your Prediction for the Apple Event Tomorrow?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Events" @ 11:30 AM

http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...-roll-event.ars

"Apple has announced a special media event to take place on September 9, 2009. The invitation indicates that it will be iPod-related (just like in previous years) and will take place in San Francisco."

Just a little reminder about the Apple event tomorrow morning. From the ads we have seen, it appears it will be iPod oriented but will that be it? What else do you think will be announced? Will Jobs make an appearance? Will the camera enabled iPod make the cut? Will that tablet rumor be proven true or false? Oh and what about The Beatles?

Hit and Run Hula at the San Francisco Apple Store

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.macdailynews.com/index.p...ks_apple_store/

"It's been a busy day for the Nā Lei Hulu, Ka Wēkiu Dancers, who started their Hit and Run Hula at Pier 39 this morning, bused over to the Ferry Building, made their way to the stage at Union Square, stopped at the Apple Store, the Cable Car Turnaround, were kicked out of the Westfield Mall food court by security (figures), and quickly ambushed the BART station instead," Leanne Maxwell reported for SFist.

Lonely Planet San Francisco for Free!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/free-lonely-planet-guide-sf

"The iTunes App Store offers Lonely Planet's San Francisco City Guide for free. Particularly handy if you're going to be attending the upcoming WWDC, this app is $16 off and the best deal we've seen for a guide to San Francisco."

I've never used any of these products but the reviews seem to be pretty good. Regardless, it is a $15.99 USD app normally, so getting it for free seems like a no-brainer doesn't it? I picked one up even though I'm not going to WWDC, but we are planning on a trip down the coast to San Francisco at some point this year. I normally use the printed guide books when I go to a city so I'm looking forward to seeing how well this type of guide works on the iPhone. I won't get the whole effect (ie the GPS feature) but can't beat the price! Unknown how long this will be free so snap it up quick!
