Want to Work in Cupertino?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.ipodnn.com/articles/10/0...ll.into.motion/

"Apple's Cupertino headquarters is now hiring for a new position, that of an iPhone advertising SDK manager."

If you are hired, expect to "manage a team working on the frameworks included in the iPhone SDK." Just what does this mean? Well it is in the realm of advertising so it is probably associated with the purchase of Quattro, the mobile advertiser, earlier this year. You will need to have experience not only in advertising but also Mac OS X, Cocoa, Unix and/or variants of C. Apple has posted the job here, so if interested check it out, oh, and good luck!

Stanford Offering iPhone Development Courses Via iTunes

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 12:00 PM

"Like it did last year, Stanford University has posted the complete lecture and presentation slides for the Winter 2010 term's iPhone Application Development course. If you aren't in school or your local center for higher education hasn't jumped on the bandwagon and offered its own course, the Stanford course may be a good substitute."

I watched some of the lectures they produced in April of last year (they have since reissued the slides in iTunes) and they really are well done. This series just started and is available now in iTunes [link]. The course is taught by Paul Marcos and Alan Cannistraro, both Apple employees. This series includes APIs from the latest iPhone 3.1 SDK and also have closed captioning. But, unless you are actually enrolled in the course you can't get any help from the instructors via email so don't even try. With 4.4 million downloads from the last series, I think you can see why.

Apple Releases iPhone 3.0 Beta 5

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 08:00 AM

http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...f-cupertino.ars

"Apple has seeded the fifth beta of iPhone OS 3.0 to developers, just one week after the last. Only the StoreKit API appears to have any significant changes, but the quick turnaround since the last beta release indicates that the OS is nearing completion."

This update has some changes for StoreKit for in-app purchasing, and they changed the iTunes version to 8.2b10. There was also a change to disable MMS and tethering with this update. It was only about a week ago that the beta 4 version was released, so these are coming out pretty quickly. Guess the pressure is on since WWDC is only a month away as of today.

iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 4 Released

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/04...-now-available/

"Man, they're just cranking these things out. Just two weeks after iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 3 (which was, in turn, two weeks after iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 2), we've got another Beta. Beta 4 of iPhone OS 3.0 is now available for developers, as long as they've downloaded the brand spankin' new iPhone 8.2 pre-release. It just went live, so we're not quite sure what's new here. If you spot anything, let us know - we'll do the same."

To say they are "cranking these things out" is an understatement. Obviously in preparation for the upcoming WWDC '09, Apple is sending these updates out as fast as they can. There is a caveat with this release: you need to install the prerelease of iTunes 8.2 in order for it to work. This one doesn't have much information with it, however. The only thing I've read so far is that it adds stability to the OS, allows some functionality to your store settings pane for your iTunes account and a reference to Blu-Ray in the iTunes 8.2 documentation. Maybe that is the reason these are coming out so frequently; they aren't adding much with each update. Regardless, I'm very excited to see it all put together in June.

New iPhone 3.0 Beta and SDK Reaches Developers

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.macnn.com/articles/09/04....iphone.3.beta/

"Apple has released a third beta of the upcoming iPhone 3.0 operating system, build 7A280f. The company has advised of compatibility issues, although any significant changes to the interface or features will likely be reported after developers have a chance to take a closer look at the OS."

I'm seriously looking forward to the 3.0 software and from the frequency of releases lately, I'm starting to feel like we won't have that long to wait. Of course, I'm also looking forward to the potential for a new iPhone, also, and preferrably one with 32 gigs of storage. 16 just isn't cutting it for me anymore!
