Canon Adds Several PIXMA Printers to AirPrint List

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 01:00 PM

http://www.edibleapple.com/canon-ad...+(Edible+Apple)

"Canon on Tuesday announced that it's PIXMA line of printers, which include the MG8220, MG6220, and the MG5320 will now come with support for Apple's AirPrint feature which enables wireless printing from the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch."

I've always liked PIXMA series printers, having owned several over the years. Now it looks like they may make the short list for printers to buy that are AirPrint capable. HP has also added several and Epson says by this fall that all of their new printers will be compatible. Took awhile but good things come to those who wait right?

http://9to5mac.com/2011/06/23/hp-en...more-laserjets/

"Computer maker Hewlett-Packard today issued a firmware update which adds support for wireless printing from iOS devices via Apple's AirPrint technology to eight new LaserJet printers, bringing the number of AirPrint-enabled LaserJets to thirteen."

HP has a page dedicated to these types of printers here, and in other printer news Apple has updated Epson and Lexmark printer drivers.

Learn How to use AirPrint on the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 09:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/12/...-ipad-ultimate/

"Printing from the iPad is easy with AirPrint, but is it really as easy as Apple boasts? Only if you have the right printer. But which is the right printer? And once you get it installed how do you print? Well stop worrying, and just sit back, relax and grab your iPad for some notes, because I'm going to tell you everything you need to know about AirPrint."

Step-by-step on how to make AirPrint work with your iPad. Short and to the point, so if you want to learn about it quickly, this video is your answer. As a bonus they also discuss apps that are compatible as well as some that can work around the "compatible printer" issue in case you want to print photos and aren't using one of the printers on the compatible list (printing text still limited to AirPrint and the compatible printers on the list at Apple.

Printopia Makes AirPrint Useful

Posted by Joe Johaneman in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 06:00 AM

AirPrint is a great idea, but currently it only works with 12 printers. (You can find a list of compatible printers at Gizmodo). Printopia from ecamm takes the concept of AirPrint and turns it into something useful.

AirPrint for Windows, if You Trust Their German Translation!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/38011/activa...e+Intelligence)

"AirPrint is currently Mac only and works exclusively with a few HP printers. For Mac users without one of those fancy AirPrint-compatibile printers there's a fantastic Mac application called Printopia but what about Windows? For Windows husers who want AirPrint to work with their computer there is a new tool called ‘AirPrint Activator.'"

As you can see, the directions are in German, but the translated version from 9to5Mac is as follows:

"Just download the one-click tool, install and activate AirPrint for Windows 32bit or 64bit. Then you have to have the printer in System Preferences (printer properties) to share. Already, all printer under Windows 32-bit or Windows 64-bit for IOS 4.2.1 and AirPrint available. Please note Step 3: AirPrint.exe must be enabled in Windows Firewall."

Seems straightforward enough, and you can go here to download the file, but as always, be careful on the Internets!

Ok, So There Are a Few Problems Printing With iOS 4.2

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 06:32 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/155...l?lsrc=rss_main

"When you think about it, it's amazing how much actual work you can get done with just an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You can create, read, and edit everything from documents to email and spreadsheets from just about anywhere."

But it is limited, since it really only works with these five HP printers:

  • HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer-C410HP
  • Photosmart Premium e-All-in-One Printer series-C310
  • HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer series-B210
  • HP ENVY 100 e-All-in-One Printer Series-D410
  • HP Photosmart eStation Printer series-C510

But if you really want to give it a go, and you have one of the above printers, do a quick read of this how-to and you can get it to work with minimal frustration.
