Learn About and Purchase Art With Art Circles for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 09:19 AM

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/arti...=rss_everything

"I have a friend who is all about art. When she talks about any subject dealing with art she borders on pretentiousness as she slings about the names of different artists (living or dead), the people she's met, her near-fame, and so on."

If you want to be in the know, this free app called Art Circles fits the bill. This app covers all kinds of art so you can be "in the know" about a wide variety of artwork. And not only can you share the art you like via email and Facebook, you can also buy the art you like via the app. The coolest thing is you can actually put the artwork on a photo of the wall you are thinking of using and you can see how it would look.

Machete on the iPad!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 04:00 AM

http://macenstein.com/default/2011/...f-chris-seddon/

"Illustrator Chris Seddon has some pretty impressive work, but I'm always a little extra impressed when someone can crank out that work on an iPad."

I think he captured the seriousness of Machete don't you? He used the $1.99 USD app called Sketch Club for iPad [affiliate link] to do his work, and as you can see from all the examples on his website, he has it down pretty well. Amazing stuff.

Tsevis Visual Designs Loves Steve Jobs

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/the-design...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"Visual designer Charis Tsevis creates high-impact images by piecing together digital minutia into stunning mosaics. Tsevis, based in Athens, Greece has worked for Toyota, IKEA, Bradesco Bank, Saatchi and Saatchi, BBH and media like Time, Fortune, Los Angeles Times, Sunday Times and Forbes, to name a few"

Interesting review with the designer, who takes a week or so of 16-hour days to finish his prints. I really like the one above but he has several other ones as well. And he doesn't just do portraits of Steve Jobs. You can check out his work on his website, http://www.tsevis.com/.

So This is Art...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:20 PM

http://www.cultofmac.com/ipad-is-pr...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"Don't be fooled by the iPad's thin case and fragile-looking glass screen. It may look vulnerable, but the iPad is nearly indestructible, says an artist who specializes in destroying Apple's products. Artist Michael Tompert, who's first exhibit of Apple-inspired artwork opens today, tried to destroy an iPad by hitting it with a sledgehammer."

Apparently the sledgehammer wasn't working so well, so he heated it up with a blowtorch, and in his words "I had to blowtorch it for 15 minutes until the inside boiled and it exploded from inside." On one hand at least I know my iPad will survive some hits with a sledgehammer...

iBrite, Perfect for Kids and the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ne...o-a-lite-brite/

"aCleverTwist.com has released a new iPad app, iBrite, that allows users to relive the experience of creating artwork with a Lite-Brite without having to deal with little colored pegs."

The perfect thing for those long trips, which should keep the kids occupied for hours. I suppose it would work to keep your co-pilot awake too. It's available now for $1.99 USD in iTunes. And if you feel like you have what it takes to master iBrite, post your creations on the iBrite Facebook page.

One More Way to Finance Your iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/03/30/arti...o-buy-an-ipad2/

"This is the kind of thing that's just clever enough to work once. Artist Andrew Fulton really wants an iPad (as do most of us), but he doesn't have the money to get one (likewise). So he's decided to try and sell some iPad-related art to raise money for his iPad."

So starting out at $20.00 USD and going up to $125.00 USD, you can commission an original piece of iPad artwork. One of a kind pieces drawn just for you. Clever idea, if only I could draw.

Attention to Detail by Apple

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/09/05/the-...os-x-app-icons/

"Over at his blog Cult of Mac, writer Leander Kahney published a post this morning featuring full-size 512 x 512 pixel screenshots of Mac icons. As he notes, the highly detailed icons are part of a move to make the OS resolution independent, but they're also an indication of Apple's attention to detail."

These are really incredible icons, well worth checking out if you have the time. You can't really see all the details that Apple has put into their icons until you see them in the blown up version. They even put reflections in the columns for Numbers that are only visible in the larger versions. No good reason other than attention to detail.

iWallFlower.com Makes Art Emotional

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.iwallflower.com

"iWallFlower.com is a web site which displays in real time, drawings being made by iPod touch and iPhone users from around the world. Everyone can view the art as it is being created by visiting www.iWallFlower.com, and any iPod touch or iPhone user can download the free iWallFlower App from the Apple iTunes store, and instantly and freely add artwork to the iWallFlower World Art Project."

The variety of drawings is pretty cool here. Lots of art from around the world in easily digestible bites right on your screen! I think little projects like this one are kind of fun, and of course the more people who download and use the app, the more interesting the scrolling art display gets. Best of all? It's free!
