Want a Piece of Apple's Fifth Avenue Store?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/broken-app...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"This one puts the "cult" back in "cult of mac:" someone is auctioning off a broken piece of glass from Apple's Fifth Avenue store on eBay. It's a step from the retail locale's elegant glass staircase, to be precise."

From the ad on eBay: "When these are new, they cost 10K to buy from the German glass-makers. So, since it's cracked I figure it's worth at least $2500, considering the steps are all custom ordered. You could use it as a coffee table on top of some cinder blocks, or just keep it for the sake of keeping it."

Ridiculous.

iPhone and Toilet Don't Mix

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 08:00 AM

"Faithful German Macenstein reader Tim Schiller came across this listing on eBay for what can only be described as 'THE must-have iPhone accessory of 2009'."

It is funny, at least to me, that his wife dropped her iPhone in the toilet twice and all it took was this little sign to remind her that no, it isn't the place to put your iPhone. At least that is the story. Act fast if you want one, he only has 8 left, at least he had that may when I went to the site on Tuesday.

Attention Collectors! Apple I on eBay

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Classic Apple" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/11/18/foun...-documentation/

"A few months ago, we provided details of an auction that featured a Mac that had been given to Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry by Apple. If you missed your chance to pick up that prime item, now you have an opportunity to own an Apple that is even more rare: an Apple-1 (also known as the Apple I) that's currently on auction on eBay."

The auction is sitting at $50,000.00 USD, but that is the starting price since it hasn't received any bids. Interesting bit of history for a collector, but a pricey one!

eBay Updates Their App

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 12:00 PM

"eBay Mobile, one of our favorite iPhone business apps, just got better. This tool for on-the-go buyers and sellers lets you bid on items, check prices, and answer customers' questions."

eBay is utilizing the "push" feature of the iPhone 3.0 in their latest update, so you will get notifications for when items you are bidding on are getting close to ending or when you have been outbid. They have also integrated PayPal payments for some items as well as searching through completed items and descriptions.

Warhol Mac Silkscreen to be Auctioned

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/140...html?lsrc=mwnws

"Who doesn't love a great piece of Apple-themed art? Then again, once you've seen Adam Reeder's sculptures, is there anything that can top them? With all due respect to Mr. Reeder, perhaps a serigraph by Andy Warhol."

An interesting addition to any collection of Mac memorabilia, but you better have money to burn. They expect the piece, done by Andy Warhol about 24 years ago, to land in the $20,000.00 USD range at the May 6th Auction. It's roughly 3 feet by 3 feet in size, or 1 meter by 1 meter if you prefer. The auction will be held at O'Gallerie in Portland Oregon, and if this isn't to your liking, you can always peruse their auction catalog.
