"Another occasion to thank myself for not being an early adopter."

That didn't take long, with Apple releasing an update to fix the break caused by their Security Update 2012-001 v1.1. You can get the update via Software Update or by going to the Apple downloads page.

Prevent Stolen iMessages the Easy Way

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 07:30 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/164..._a_sim_pin.html

"A week ago, Ars Technica reported on a flaw within Apple's iMessaging system, iMessage."

The basic problem is that if your iPhone was stolen, it would still have the capability to receive messages via iMessage, even after you wiped it remotely. Rather annoying yes? Well, have no fear, the folks over at Macworld came up with a solution to the problem, in three easy steps.

Is Your MacBook Air Creaking? Here is the Answer...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.appletell.com/technology...etell+Appletell

"An OS X Daily contributor reports that his/her 11" MacBook Air has been creaking a lot lately when picked up, and the noise, which has gradually increased, has been traced to loose screws."

They never make it easy to fix it yourself do they? In this case you need to get a special tool, available via iFixit for $5.95 USD.

Can't Use Two Finger Click on Your Macbook Pro? Try This...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.insignificantthoughts.co...ight-click-fix/

"In the release version of Mac OS X 10.7, there is a bug that prevents secondary click working with two-finger click on the Macbook Pro 4.1."

According to the instructions, the only way to fix this is to go into terminal mode. In Terminal run the following:

defaults -currentHost write -g

com.apple.trackpad.enableSecondaryClick -bool YES

Of course, with anything in Terminal, be very careful.

Lose Your Songs With iOS 4.2? Here Is The Fix

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 08:30 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/37390/how-to...e+Intelligence)

"The customary series of unexpected fault reports are coming through the wires this am, with iOS 4.2 reportedly munching music on some iPhones and causing hassles with HDMI on the Apple TV. Here's what we got so far, and we hope, nay, urge readers with further information to use comments below to help each other out on this."

The bug on Apple TV apparently is causing some flickering, but there is an update due out soon for Apple TV so hopefully that will be fixed. The music issue has also cropped up, which makes it appear as if all the songs on your iPhone have been deleted. The fix is fairly simply though, all you have to do is the following:

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes on the computer.
  • The phone appears under devices in the left-hand column;
  • click the arrow to the left of it so your media categories appear and select music;
  • Play a song on the iPhone via iTunes on your computer;
  • Sync the iPhone againRe-open the iPod app on the iPhone;
  • Wait a while while the iPod updates its library.

Simple to fix but annoying just the same.

Fix TomTom Car Kit to Work With iPhone 4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/heres-a-si...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"I was gutted to find this morning that my brand new iPhone 4 didn't work with my beloved TomTom Car Kit - the best automotive cradle/charger for the iPhone, bar none."

Imagine his delight when he fixed the problem, with a simple piece of velcro. You can also use a small piece of foam, as all you need to do is create enough of a barrier to force the iPhone 4 to make the connection with the car kit. Simple. And cheap.

Here is One iPad Wi-Fi Solution

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.businessinsider.com/appl...+Alley+Insider)

"A reader updates us on the on-going does-the-iPad-properly-connect-to-WiFi saga."

What the reader did was to change the Airport Extreme's admin password. All other Mac devices worked on it but the iPad wasn't connecting even though it recognized the network. Once they changed the password, it worked fine.

Possible Solutions to iPad Wi-Fi Problems

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:30 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/how-to-fix...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"Having some problems with your iPad's WiFi connection? Apple's aware of the problem, and has some ideas on how to fix them. According to Apple, the iPad might not automatically rejoin known WiFi networks using third-party routers that are dual-band capable (802.11 b/g and 802.11 n) when each band's network uses the same name or use different security settings."

Of course the first step to the solution with any problem is to admit you have a problem, which Apple has done fairly quickly by posting this support article. An Apple employee has also posted an FAQ on the wireless problem with possible fixes at the discussion forums on Apple. I haven't experienced this yet but I know some of you have, so here are some resources to hopefully help you.
