Use GarageBand to Create Custom Ringtones

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/163...l#lsrc.rss_main

"Apple's iOS devices come preloaded with a handful of alert sounds that you can use for ringtones and, as of iOS 5, for text messages, voicemails, reminders, and more. But maybe you want something more distinctive: a snippet of your favorite song, a clip from a classic movie, the whoosh of a materializing TARDIS?"

Well fear not reader, as this primer will have you creating your own custom ringtones in no time. Detailed with optional written step-by-step instructions, the video takes you through the process and is actually quite simple to do.

GarageBand Updated, Import Away!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 06:30 PM

http://www.9to5mac.com/58729/garage...-ipad-projects/

"The 47MB update is available now through Software Update or via Apple's site as a standalone installer."

This should fix that annoying problem of not being able to open projects imported from GarageBand for iPad. If you are using GarageBand '11, this is a must get update.

Not So Fast With Your GarageBand Project

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/arti...nterchangeable/

"Apple posted a KnowledgeBase article Thursday clarifying that GarageBand projects created with the Mac version of the software and the iPad version are not interchangeable. this means that users won't be able to start something on their iPad and finish it on their Mac, or take something on the road with them on the iPad that was started on a Mac."

The Knowledge Base article is here, and it does note that in future releases you will be able to interchange the different projects between your Mac and your iPad. GarageBand is available now in the iTunes store for $4.99 USD [affiliate link].

Updates for OS X and GarageBand

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 10:00 AM

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-1...subj=News-Apple

"Apple released an update to its operating system Wednesday, version 10.5.8."

They also released a GarageBand Update, version 5.1 a few days prior, which addressed stability and problems in downloading the lessons from iTunes. The OS X update is supposed to fix several compatibility and reliability issues with Airport Extreme and Bluetooth, which should help with the frequently reported problem of disconnects from those using Bluetooth keyboards and mice. It also addresses several issues related to Safari, iCal and MobileMe, among others. Sounds like a diversified update that should be installed.

iLife '09 First Impressions

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

It would not be possible to do a full review of iLife '09 after having had it for as short a period of time as I have, but I still wanted to give you the skinny on what I've noticed. As you all know, I was very excited to see a new version of iLife at MacWorld, and I think that Apple has done nothing to shake my confidence in iLife in general. It's still a solid package, a great value, and a must-own for any Mac user. Read more...
